One of the greatest Monuments of the Holkar Dynasty, it covers a total area of 28 hectares. At one time it used to be the best rose Gardens of the City. Lal Baag Palace is one of the grandest monuments the Holkar dynasty left Indore. A reflection of their taste, grandeur and lifestyle, its construction began in 1886 under Tukoji Rao Holkar II, and was carried out in three phases. The final phase was completed in 1921 under Tukoji Rao Holkar III. Many royal receptions were held here. It has a total area of 28 hectares, and at one time it had the reputation of having one of the best rose gardens in the country.
Lal Bagh Palace is notable for its rich history and impressive architecture. Built in 1886 by Tukoji Rao Holkar II, its construction was carried out in three phases finally saw completion in 1921, under Tukoji Rao Holkar III. Its classic architecture, complemented by sprawling lawns, is a remarkable sight. Today, a part of the building converted into a museum preserves rare murals and other antique artifacts belonging to the Holkars.
The carpets endow the arena with a royal look that is integrally associated with the Palace. Moreover you can also discover the flying nymphs that are inscribed on the ceiling, giving the impression of them flying overhead; Belgium stained Glass Windows enables the Palace to reflect the royalty again.
There are also the Italian Style paintings on the wall, and it seems that Italy had been the prime influence on the building of the palace. The palace consists of the most beautiful Rose Garden of the World. Lal Baag Palace lies in the South Western part of the city of Indore. It is encircled by a beautiful garden that has flowers and of rare origin. The palace was actually built between 1886 and 1921and had been the house of the great Holkar, named Usha Raje.

The construction of the Lal Bagh Palace in Indore was completed in three distinct stages at the end of which such an architectural marvel was created. It was in 1886 that the construction of Lal Bagh Palace was started under Tukoji Rao Holkar II and was completed in three phases.
The palace was built by Maharaja Shivaji Rao Holkar during 1886-1921. Situated amidst dry and dusty gardens, it is architecturally quite similar to the New Palace. Lal Bagh Palace once hosted many royal receptions and even today, reflects the life style and taste of the Holkar Rulers.
The construction of the palace began in 1886 under Tukoji Rao Holkar II. It was carried out in three phases and the final phase was completed in 1921 under Tukoji Rao Holkar III. Owing to its unique style of construction, it was one of the most stylish residences in India. The entrance hall on the ground floor is in marble and displays prehistoric artifacts. There is a coin collection on the first floor which dates back to the Muslim period.
The architecture and decoration of this Lal Baag Palace reflects the highly westernized outlook and aesthetic sensibility of the later Holkars. The Palace was inhabited by the Holkars till 1978. Tukojirao III was the last resident of this splendid palace. The Government of Madhya Pradesh is developing it as a cultural centre. The whole complex has a total area of 28 acres and boasts of one of the best rose gardens in the country. You can visit the Palace between 10:00 am and 05:00 pm on nominal charges everyday, except Monday.

The statue is built of material like bricks, limestone, jaggery mix, soil collected from seven Mokshapuri, powder of five atnas and water from sacred rivers. The charm of the statue comes from the metallic frame made up of gold, silver and copper, iron and brass. Do not miss a visit to this giant wonder.
Lal Baag Palace:This is surely the most impressive building in Indore. The construction of this palace was started in the year 1886 by Tukoji Rao Holkar II but it was carried out in phases. The palace was completed in 1921 by Tukoji Rao Holkar III. The palace is spread over an area of 200 acres. One will notice the influence of European and Maratha style in the architecture. Lal Baag Palace is now a museum where you can see numerous artifacts of Holkar Dynasty. The main attraction of the palace is the Durbar hall, which is covered with stucco art and has been a venue for many royal gatherings. The palace is open from 10 AM to 5 PM and is closed on Mondays.
Kanch Mandir: Kanch Mandir is a Jain Temple that is considered nothing less than a wonder. The entire building is decorated with glass. Right from ceilings and floors to pillars and doorknobs, everything is completely covered with glass. There are many paintings as well, which are also done on glass. This one of a kind temple is dedicated to Lord Mahavira whose statues are kept in a glass chamber at the top. There are three statues that are reflected 21 times on all sides akin to 21 tirthankars of faith.
Town Hall: The present Mahatma Gandhi Hall was initially named as King Edward Hall when it was built in the year 1904. It was then renamed to Mahatma Gandhi Hall only in 1948. The building is made up of Seoni stones and is built in Indo-Gothic style. It is also referred to as ‘Ghanta Ghar’ because of the four-faced clock tower in front. The Town Hall houses children’s park along with a temple and a library. The Hall also is venue to many fairs and exhibitions that are held here throughout the year.
