What is an eSIM?

An eSIM, or embedded SIM, is a digital version of a traditional SIM card. Instead of a physical card that you insert into your device, an eSIM is a small, programmable chip embedded directly into the device itself.

Key features of an eSIM:

  • Removable SIM replacement: You don’t need to physically swap SIM cards to change carriers or plans.
  • Multiple profiles: Many devices can store multiple eSIM profiles, allowing you to switch between different carriers or plans easily.
  • Remote provisioning: eSIM profiles can be activated remotely, making it convenient for travelers to get connected.

Common uses of eSIMs:

  • Smartphones: Replacing physical SIM cards for added convenience and flexibility.

eSIM plans with call and text services provide an international number that allows you to make phone calls and send text messages abroad. If you have a data-only eSIM plan, you can still make phone calls, but will need to use an internet-based calling app (like WhatsApp), social media, or your primary number.
