About:
The Perur Siva Temple is situated some 6 kilometers away in the west of Coimbatore. The temple was built by the Karikala Cholan and it is constructed on the banks of the river Noyyal. The Perur Siva Temple is purely dedicated to the lord Siva and the deity in the shrine is called as Patteeswaras and His Consort, Pachai Nayaki. The buildings in the outer edge were constructed by the sawyers of Madurai during 17th century. The inner place of worship is quite very old and the temple has prominent figures of the Indian soldiers in the entrance. The temple is also called as Mel Chidambaram.The Perur Patteeswaraswamy Temple is located in the city of Coimbatore in the state of Tamil Nadu in the southern part of India. The Perur Patteeswaraswamy Temple was built by Karikala Cholan. The Temple remains in a state of colorful best during the month of March. In the month of March, the Panguni Uthiram is celebrated ceremoniously. The presiding god of the Perur Patteeswaraswamy Temple in Coimbatore is Lord Shiva. In this temple, Lord Shiva is known as Patteeswarar and his consort Parvathi is known as Panchanayaki. There are huge statues in the temple.

Climate/Weather:
The climate of Coimbatore city is moderate and pleasant throughout the year. Summers are hot with the maximum temperature reaching 39�C and the minimum temperature is 21�C. History:Long ago it was found that one cow used to pour its milk over an anthill regularly in the forest. There people found a self manifested lingam.From that time the worship of the Lord is supposed to have started in this temple. The impression of the cows feet and its horn could be found on the shiva lingam. karikarchozan worshiped here to get rid of the sin of murder here. kulachekaran got cured of the lepracy and muchukundhan got removed the darkness in his face praying the Lord here.Kovai was once ruled by the Irula chieftains and was known by the name Kovan patti Coimbatore, christened by the British was once knownas Kovanputtur.In the first century CE, this area was ruled by local chieftains; artifacts from trade carried out by these people with the Romans of that period are housed in local museums in the area.It is believed that the Chola monarch Karikaal Cholan built the sanctum of this temple in around 500 CE,housing the Shivalingam which is the center of worship today. This temple was visited by the Saivite saint Sundarar in the 9th century.
The Cholas of the 10th and 11th centuries made further additions to this temple. In this period, the Cholas also built the Sangameswara temple in the heart of Coimbatore.

Thanthonri Vinayagar:As we approach the foothills, at a little distance from it, the deity Ganesha greet us. Offering our prayers to Sri Vigneshwara, the remover of obstacles, we begin our ascent to the hills. It is significant to note that the deity is not a chiseled one but it is of a spontaneous origin .The Srine of Idumba:The shrine of Idumba is located almost in the middle of the path of steps. The image of the deity is carved on a huge round rock in the posture of carrying a Kaavadi. Married couples having no issues worship the deity and offer toy cradles with the firm faith of being blessed with progeny by the Grace of god.The Depictions Of Arjuna’s Penance: A beautiful mandapam enshrining what is called ‘Kudirai Kulambu’ .It is believed that the horse of Lord Muruga caused the Marks, as He marched against the Demon Surapadma. Or the horse on which Lord Muruga rode and chased the robbers referred to earlier might have imprinted by them.Pambatti Siddhar Cave:This is located on the slopes towards the east and can be approached by a narrow path, protected by a stone hedge or parapet. Pambatti Siddhar used this cave as his abode for meditation on Lord Muruga and attained salvation here. One can notice a natural image of a snake on the rock.

The sanctuary has been recently renamed as Indira Gandhi wildlife sanctuary.
