About:There are nine waterfalls in 10 km area in Kutralam in which the Peraruvi is the main one. From there we can reach five falls (aiyntharuvi) which lies 4 km away from the main falls. It flows as five branches and falls in unison. It is said that it is a snake with five heads. In between main falls and five falls is Chittaruvi. One has to go through the forest up to 3 km to reach at Chembakadevi waterfalls. Here is the temple of Agasthya monk where devotees make a visit on Pournami day. From there we have to walk a steep area up to one km to reach at honey falls (thenaruvi). The old falls (old Kutralam ) lies 8 km away from the road to Amba ocean. In the path there is small water falls which is called tiger falls (Puliyaruvi) . A cute little fall especially for the kids. Then comes new falls (puthiyaruvi) and fruits falls (pazhathotta aruvi). Now no visitors are allowed to fruit falls which is surrounded with fruits trees and plantations. The reason, visitors are polluting the waterfalls. The famous Kutralanathar Temple lies near to the main falls. Sivan is Kuruambaleeswaran here and Kuzhalmozhi is the goddess (devatha). It is believed that chithrasabha which is adorned with wall paintings is the dance theatre (natyamandapam) of Lord Siva.

The climate of here is usually tropical- generally hot and humid. The average temperature during summer (March to June) ranges from 23 to 36° Celsius and 18 to 30°C during the rest of the year. The average annual rainfall is 680 mm, most of which occurs during the northeast monsoon (October-December). Since the economy of the district is primarily based on agriculture, fluctuations in the monsoon rains or flooding of the Thamarabarani river has an immediate impact of livelihood in the area
Interesting places to Visit:
The main attraction of Courtallam for all its visitors are the waterfalls. There are three major waterfalls in Courtallam- the Tiger Falls, the Main Falls and the Five Falls. Old Courtallam Falls, further away from the rest, is another attractive, and perhaps the largest amongst the Courtallam falls. Other attractions include a snake park, a public aquarium, small children’s parks and play areas. Most of them are badly maintained.
