About:
Kapaleeshwar Temple was built in the 8th century by the Pallavas. It is situated at Mylapore of Chennai. Lord Shiva is the main deity of this temple. One can locate a shrine of Goddess Parvathi in the courtyard. Besides, there are shrines dedicated to Ganesha, Muruga, Deivayani and Valli. Arupathu Moovar Vilzha Festival and Therotsavam are celebrated with extreme enthusiasm in this templeThe temple demonstrates a typical Dravidian architectural style, where the gopuram stands-out on the street where the temple lies. It has two entrances.Apart from Shiva, the temple houses other shrines that are dedicated to lords such as Ganesha, Muruga and Sani Bhagvan.It also contains ‘vahanas’ like elephant, bull, bandicoot, goat and a golden chariot. The god and goddess, sitting on the vahana are brought around the temple with the devotees playing music and lifting the vahanas. The deities are offered four pujas daily.

Climate/Weather:
The weather and climate of Chennai reflect the geographical location and relief of the Chennai city. History:
Parvati in the form of a peacock, Mayil is said to have worshipped Shiva(in a legend similar to that at Mayiladuturai), hence the name Mylapore. Thereare several literary works associated with this hoary shrine, which remainstoday, a seat of Tamil culture. The Poompaavai Patikam composed by Sambandar isassociated with this temple & he is said to have brought back to life,Poompavai the daughter of a devotee of Shiva – Sivanesa Chettiar. This event isenacted on the 8th day of the annual festival in the month of Pankuni .
Interesting places to Visit:
 Vivekananda Memorial Rock It is about 500 meters away from mainland.  This memorial stands on one of two rocks separated by about 70 meters. It was built in 1970. This memorial is dedicated to Swami Vivekananda, the greatest social reformer. Swamy Vivekananda was supposed to have meditated on the rock where the memorial stands today. A meditation hall is also attached with the memorial.Gandhi Mandapam :Not far from the Kumari Amman Temple is the Gandhi Mandapam, constructed at the spot where the urn containing the ashes of Mahatma Gandhi was kept for public view before a portion of its contents was immersed in the three seas. It resembles an Oriyan temple and was designed so that on Gandhiji’s birthday (2nd October), the sun’s rays fall on the place where his ashes were kept.
