St. Mary’s Church or Holy Kings Catholic Church is located Piravom, Ernakulam District, Kerala.This is an ancient church of the Catholics. It was built in the year 1821.This church is positioned on a picturesque hilltop and offers a breathtaking view for nature lovers. There is a lamp burning continuously round the clock. It is also famous as the Church of the Kings.The specialty of the Piravom Church is that the ‘Oottu nercha’ of twelve children is celebrated on Easter Eve. It is the only parish under Kottayam diocese, where this celebration is conducted.People from various parts of the country irrespective of caste, creed and religion reach this pilgrim centre for consolation and comfort with offerings to their ‘Kings’ who never refuse the prayers and tears of the devotees. This pilgrim centre stands as a fort of refuge, showering blessings, ecstasy, complacence and solace to millions of people far and near. Its lamp, the light of hope, is kept burning perpetually throughout day and night, a peculiar feature! Though the Church is named after St. Mary, it is popularly known as the ‘Church of the Kings’ (“Rajakkalude Pally”).

It is a popular picnic sport with Salim Ali Bird Sanctuary near by. A myth connected with the origin of this place says that this natural fortification of forests and hills was built by Bhoothams (spirit/ghosts) overnight.Thattekad Bird Sanctuary:Thattekad Bird Sanctuary is about 13kms from Kothamangalam and about 71kms from Kochi Airport. Without guide or special permissions it’s a dead end.The sanctuary was notified in 1983 based on a recommendation made by Dr. Salim Ali many years previously. Ali described Thattekad in the 1930’s as the richest bird habitat in peninsular India, comparable only with the eastern Himalayas. Since then much of the forest has been diverted to cultivation and teak and mahogany plantation but what survives gives a glimpse of the phenomenal bird diversity of the once widespread lowland forests of Kerala.Paittingattilkadavu:Paittingattilkadavu a very nice place to have bath and sight seeing.
