| It is a big Hoysala temple, 12 km from Halebid. There are few visitors. King BIddiga converted to Hinduism under the influence of a philosopher and called himself Vishu Vardhana. At first he built this temple and defined Vishnu in it. It is one of the three temples famous in the Hoysala era. This is the biggest temple among the three. The three mandapas join and make a big mandapa spanning left and right and the shrine is at the far end facing a closed mandapa. This shrine is very simple and in contrast the other two shrines are heavily decorated. All temples are low in height as compared to the length and reflect the horizontal strength of Hoysala style architecture. |
