It is a four-day festival which is dedicated to the worship of the goddess Durga.
Why Dakshin Chennai Prabasi Is Famous For Durga Puja?
Dakshin Chennai Prabasi Cultural Association is celebrating its 6th year of Durga Puja celebrations in Shri Umadri Mahal, in Sholinganallur. Shri Umadri Mahal is located bang on OMR, a little before Sathyabama University on the left side, when you’re travelling in the direction of Navalur/Siruseri/Padur. As I entered, the atmosphere was festive and wonderful! Hardly felt like being in Chennai with so many Bengalis around.
We know this one is slightly off the radar but it is one the youngest Durga Puja in the city. They do shift their venue depending on availability of space. This year is being held at Umadri Mahal, TNHB, Sholingnallur on OMR. With IT professionals and techies from OMR at the forefront, this Puja has a very contemporary feel. Many cultural programmes are put up by association members and are immensely entertaining and culturally rich. They also offer a great range of food choices.
