You can find a lot of day-trippers at this place. It offers a good break and a nice picnic spot during a long day of travel and most people spend around 4-5 hours in this place enjoying the shade under the bamboos, a pedal boat ride, a casual walk, elephant ride, witness the deer park. Also, the place is filled with a lot of bamboo trees and once inside you don’t realize which is east and which is west. But that’s where the fun of spending a night here starts. For one, you can enjoy the full spectacle of the sun rising and setting — over the river, beyond the bamboo clumps. Then there is the silence of the night, which can be quite startling if one is used — as most of us are– to bustling towns.Talking of sunrises and sunsets, you can get quite confused in your directions if you take a parikrama around the island, for sometimes you see the sun on your right, and then on your left and then suddenly it is right in front of you. But all the time its reflection is shimmering in the river or setting the bamboo groves aflame with its golden light. There are many birds at Nisargadama. — black drongos, Alexandrine parakeets, rose-ringed parakeets and coucals and many more. There is a fenced-in deer park with chital and sambar. Machans have been erected in a few spots but in the absence of real wild life here, these seem to be more cosmetic than of any practical value. But the nearby Nagarhole sanctuary is no doubt a much bigger attraction for nature lovers, with its tigers, gaur, elephants and wild chital herds, Nisargadama, started only in 1989 is a unique little place in the contentious waters of the river Cauvery. |

Madikeri(Mercara) is a small town with houses on hill tops and absolutely, no pollution .Also a small tibetian village and NAMDROLING monastry which is a huge buddhist temple with huge golden statues. At madikeri, visit elephant camp and step into clear, flowing serene waters of Cauvery.Buddhist Monasteries and Tibetan settlement: A quick wrap up after the breakfast (which was bread, jam, omlette, served at the cottage), we guys were ready to leave. It was close to 11:30 AM. Our earlier plan was to visit Abbey falls (35 kms from this place) and then head back to Bangalore. After the 3 hours spent in water, we didn’t have the enthu to get to the falls (which would be crowded with tourists anyway) and take a dip again. We decided to have a peak into Bylakuppe, a Tibetan settlement in India. This place is around 5 kms off the Mysore-Kushal Nagar road.It has quite a few Buddhist monasteries and the famous Golden temple is a part of the Namdroling monastery. The entire place has a very good architecture. We spent some time inside the golden temple which has deities of Budha, Dalai Lama, etc. and are plaited gold filled (mostly made of copper and coated with gold) with jewels, spiritual books and/or scriptures. We were there from 12:15 to 12:45 PM and headed our way back to Bangalore. |
