Sunpu Castle Park occupies the grounds of the former Sunpu Castle in central Shizuoka city, the castle where Tokugawa Ieyasu spent his childhood as a hostage and, later, his powerful retirement as the shogunate's founder. Though the main keep is gone, moats, stone walls and reconstructed gates and turrets remain.

Today it is a spacious city park with lawns, a Japanese garden, reconstructed structures and a statue of Ieyasu, a green heart of Shizuoka steeped in Tokugawa history.

Sunpu Castle Park is about a 15-minute walk from JR Shizuoka Station on the Tokaido Shinkansen and Tokaido Line, in the heart of the city. Local buses and the Shin-Shizuoka area are also close.
