About St. vincent pro cathedral church
St. Vincent’s Pro-Cathedral Church, located in the Satya Nagar area of Bhubaneswar, Odisha, serves as the pro-cathedral of the Archdiocese
of Cuttack-Bhubaneswar. Dedicated to Saint Vincent de Paul, the patron saint of charity, the church blends various architectural styles
and is surrounded by palm trees, with a prominent tower at its entrance. In December 2022, the church underwent significant renovations
and extensions, inaugurated by Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik. The project, supported by a grant of 20 million rupees from the
state government, aimed to enhance the church’s capacity and aesthetic appeal. The renovated structure now accommodates approximately
1,200 worshippers, reflecting the growing Catholic community in Bhubaneswar, which has expanded from 65 members in 1951 to about 20,000 today.
The church’s history dates back to the early 1950s when the Sisters of St. Joseph of Annecy established a school in Bhubaneswar.
Recognizing the need for a place of worship, the government allocated land in 1958 for the construction of the church. The foundation
stone was laid in April 1963, and the church was blessed on December 24, 1968. Over the years, it has become a central place of
worship and community gathering for Catholics in the region.
