History Church Of Christ

The history of “Church of Christ” is one of the best examples of social contribution of Christian community in India. This church has a history which revolt around the Indian independence when the government officials started to shift the state capital from Cuttack to Bhubaneswar as capital of Odisha. On that time few officials from government who are the believers of Christianity also shifted there with their families. The construction process of new office buildings and quarters were going on and government officials got their accommodations in those buildings. But most others preferred to commute daily to the new emerging township from Cuttack that was around 25KM. Odisha is a state that was surrounded by dense forests and wild animals roamed after sunset in those newly constructed cities were common on those days. This was the reason when Christian believers started to have a worship fellowship in the quarter of a believer. A committee was formed to manage the affairs in 1950. The worship place than shifted to someone else’s residence in the year 1952.

By 1954 the numbers of Christian’s families were rose in the town because the government offices were shifted to Bhubaneswar and now the committee got the support and start functioning well. After continuous approach they got approval of piece of land for church construction from government. Then, in the year 1960, 16th December, the Foundation stone was laid for the construction. The Christian families than started to contributing there months salaries for construction and in the year 1964, March 8 was the day when the first worship and dedication ceremony happened.
