The Sun Yat-sen Mausoleum, known in Chinese as Zhongshan Ling, is the tomb of Dr. Sun Yat-sen, widely regarded as the founding father of modern China and the first provisional president of the Republic of China, set into the southern slope of Purple Mountain in eastern Nanjing. Built between 1926 and 1929 following a national design competition won by architect Lü Yanzhi, the mausoleum blends traditional Chinese elements, including blue-glazed roof tiles symbolizing the Nationalist party's emblem, with modern construction techniques.
