The best way to get from Bangkok’s Suvarnabhumi International Airport (BKK) to the city center depends on your preferences, budget, and time constraints. Bangkok’s International Airport is about 19 miles from central Bangkok. With the new airport rail link plus a slew of other transport options, it’s quick and easy to get from the airport into the city even if you are traveling during rush hour. Driving from the airport into the city is definitely a possibility as driving in Thailand isn’t too difficult for visitors. However, if you don’t want or need a car, consider taking the rail link, taxi, or bus to a convenient Subway or Skytrain station for the rest of the journey.
Here are some popular transportation options:
1. Airport Rail Link
The Airport Rail Link is the cheapest and fastest way out of the airport and into downtown Bangkok. When you arrive, follow the signs for the train station, which is located on the basement floor. The train will take you directly to Makkasan Station in about 35 minutes. While there used to be an express line, the Airport Rail Link now only makes local stops. You can ride five stops to Makkasan Station (City Air Terminal) or take the train to the last stop—Phaya Thai Station—where you can connect to the Skytrain. Tickets for the Airport Rail Link cost 15 to 45 baht, depending on your final destination. From the airport to Makkasan Stations costs 35 baht; from the airport to Phayathai costs 45 baht. Trains run approximately every 15 minutes from 5:30 a.m. to midnight, daily.
2. Taxi
Taxis are readily available at the airport and offer door-to-door service. Follow the signs to the official taxi stands, where you can queue up and get a metered taxi. Ensure the driver uses the meter or agrees on a fixed price before starting the journey. Taxis are a convenient option, especially if you have heavy luggage or are traveling with a group.
3. Grab/Transportation Apps
Grab, a popular ride-hailing app in Southeast Asia, operates in Bangkok. You can book a ride through the app and enjoy upfront pricing. Follow the signs to the designated Grab pick-up areas at the airport. Using Grab offers convenience and eliminates the need for haggling, as the fare is predetermined.
4. Airport Shuttle Buses
This is the cheapest means of transportation from Suvarnabhumi Airport to central Bangkok. You exit the airport at Gate 5, find the Airport Shuttle Service area, and take the shuttle bus to the Public Transport Center to find the bus back to the center. Bus fares range from 24-35 baht, depending on the stop. Each bus route will stop at 6 to 8 stations. It takes more than an hour for the car to run. Only some bus routes operate 24 hours a day, so if you land at night, you will likely be unable to catch the appropriate bus.
5. Private Transfers
You can find public means of transport at Bangkok Airport to take you to the city center, but AtoB Bangkok Airport transfer can give you the safety and comfort you need. Whether you are traveling with your family, with friends as a couple, or alone you can have the privacy you need with the AtoB Bangkok transfer service. AtoB offers you a set rate for a taxi. The cost of a Bangkok airport car service ride includes tolls, parking, free wait time from door to door, and free meet and greet services. Keep in mind that we also offer a safety service for children traveling with us. When making a reservation for a Bangkok airport transfer, take your kids’ convenience and safety into account by adding a child seat. To suit your needs, pick from a range of baby seats, such as boosters, baby chairs, and infant seats. The Extras section contains this option.
