The Hon Thom Cable Car is a three-rope ropeway strung more than 7 kilometres over open sea between An Thoi, at the southern tip of Phu Quoc, and Hon Thom (Pineapple Island), one of the small islands in the An Thoi archipelago. It is recognised by Guinness World Records as the longest three-rope cable car over the sea, and the ten-minute crossing gives sweeping views over the fishing boats and turquoise water of the archipelago below.

At the Hon Thom end, the cable car feeds directly into Sun World Hon Thom Nature Park, whose centrepiece is Aquatopia, one of Vietnam's largest water parks, along with beach clubs, restaurants, and an evening light-and-fountain show.

It is as much an attraction in its own right as a way to reach Hon Thom island: the cable car ride offers a genuinely dramatic sea crossing rarely matched elsewhere in Vietnam, and Aquatopia turns the arrival island into a full day of water slides and pools suited to families and thrill-seekers alike. For visitors short on time, it is the easiest way to combine a signature Phu Quoc experience with a beach-and-water-park day in one outing.

The ride itself is the headline: glass-floored sections in some cabins, uninterrupted sea views, and the sight of the archipelago's smaller islands scattered below. On arrival, Aquatopia's slide towers and wave pools, Hon Thom's own beach, and the evening fountain-and-light show at the base station round out a visit that works equally well as a half-day or full-day trip.

Ride the cable car both ways for the views, then spend the day at Aquatopia's slides, lazy river, and wave pool, or relax on Hon Thom's beach if water park crowds aren't your style. In the evening, the fountain and light show at the An Thoi base station is worth timing your return around.

Many visitors combine the trip with a boat excursion from An Thoi to nearby islets for snorkelling before or after riding the cable car.

There's no independent nightlife scene on Hon Thom itself; the evening light-and-fountain show at the An Thoi base station is the after-dark highlight, after which most visitors head back to Phu Quoc's main resort strip or Duong Dong for dinner and drinks.

Hon Thom island itself has a small local population traditionally tied to fishing, though tourism development has now become the dominant activity around the cable car and water park zone.

The dry season from November to April brings the clearest skies and calmest seas, giving the best visibility during the crossing and the most comfortable water park conditions; strong winds or storms in the wet season can occasionally affect cable car operations.

As with the rest of Phu Quoc, expect a dry, sunny season from November to April and a wetter season from May to October with frequent afternoon showers; cable car operation may be paused briefly during high winds or storms for safety.

Sun World periodically runs seasonal events and light shows at the park, particularly around Tet (Lunar New Year) and major Vietnamese holidays, though these vary year to year rather than following a fixed calendar.

Arrive at the An Thoi base station in the morning, ride the cable car across to Hon Thom, spend the day at Aquatopia and the beach, and take a later cable car back in time to catch the evening light show before heading back to your resort for dinner.

A half-day covers the cable car ride and a look around Hon Thom; a full day is recommended if planning to spend real time at Aquatopia's water park.

The An Thoi base station sits at the southern end of Phu Quoc, roughly 20-25 minutes by car or scooter from Duong Dong and the main Long Beach resort strip; most hotels can arrange transfers, and taxis or Grab also serve the route.

Expect standard Vietnamese seafood and grilled dishes at the park's restaurants; for the fuller Phu Quoc seafood experience, most visitors head back to Duong Dong's night market or Ham Ninh village after their Hon Thom day.

There's no significant lodging directly on Hon Thom; most visitors stay along Phu Quoc's Long Beach resort strip or in Duong Dong, roughly 20-25 minutes away, with rooms ranging from around 800,000 VND for mid-range hotels to well over 2,500,000 VND for resorts.

Budget roughly 500,000-800,000 VND per person for the combo ticket alone, plus transport and meals, making a Hon Thom day trip a moderate but not budget-tier addition to a Phu Quoc itinerary.

There are souvenir shops within the Sun World complex selling standard beach and theme-park merchandise; for local products like nuoc mam fish sauce or Phu Quoc pepper, it's better to shop back on the main island.

Follow posted safety guidance on the water slides and in the wave pool, and be aware that cable car operations can pause temporarily in high wind for safety; check conditions before planning your visit during storm season.

The base stations and main water park areas are built with paved, accessible walkways suited to most visitors, though some of the taller water slides naturally require full mobility to use.

English signage and staff are common throughout the Sun World complex given its international visitor base, so language is rarely a barrier here compared to more local parts of Phu Quoc.

Arrive early to beat the queues for both the cable car and the most popular water slides, bring a swimsuit and change of clothes, and check the weather forecast since strong wind can occasionally delay cable car departures.

Swimwear, a change of clothes, reef-safe sunscreen, a waterproof phone pouch, and sandals that can get wet are the essentials for a day combining the cable car and Aquatopia.

Use reef-safe sunscreen given the park's proximity to coral-fringed waters, dispose of waste properly, and consider that this is a large-scale developed attraction rather than a place to expect an untouched natural experience.

An Thoi's harbour is the departure point for boat trips to smaller islands in the archipelago for snorkelling, and Sao Beach and Khem Beach are a short drive north from the An Thoi base station.
