Kalinga Mahotsav is one the most famous festival in Odisha. It holds great religious significance for people. The aim of this festival is to encourage people to follow the path of peace rather than fighting between them. This Kalinga Mahotsav is organized by Art Vision in collaboration with Odisha tourism and Nalco. World Shanti Stupa, also called Shanti Pagoda, acts as the site of the Kalinga Festival. This festival is dedicated to martial dances. This festival is celebrate in month of February. Kalinga Mahotsav is also known as the National Festival of Martial Dance.
Martial art dancers come to Orissa from all over India to participate in this wonderful festival. During this celebration you can see live performances of country’s distinctive martial dance forms. Popular martial dance forms include Thang Ta of Manipur, Kalaripayattu in Kerala and Chhow and Paika from Orissa. This is a two-day annual festival which is usually in Dhauli in the beginning of February. This festival is to celebrate the victory of peace over war. The aim of the organizers is to “promote the strength of martial tradition along with the excellence of peace through dance performances”.

History Kalinga Mahotsav

The festival is in the footsteps of Dhauli Stupa, the Japanese Buddhist Temple located on a hill in the outskirts of modern Bhubaneswar. This is the place where Emperor Ashoka fought the last battle of the Great Kalinga War before surrendering the sword and embracing intelligence.
The Kalinga Mahotsav is to celebrate the victory of peace over war. The Buddha quiet and sacred statue is looking at the whole phase above the stupa.

• Lingaraja temple: The Linaraja temple was built by King Bhimadeva III during 11th Century AD. This temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva. The temple is located at Bhubaneswar. It is the largest temple in the city, which is about 148 feet high and its construction are very similar to Lord Jagannath temple in Puri. Bindu Sarovara is located by north of this temple where thousands of devotee reach to take holy bath.

• Udayagiri hill: Udayagiri hill is famous as the Jain religious place of ancient history, located about 6.5 km from Bhubaneswar. It has 18 famous caves, which were used for the life of ancient Jain communities from Kharavela rule. Some major cave are big and beautiful.

• Nandankanan Zoological Park: This Park is made by Orissa state government in 1960, but it was open for public in 1979. This zoological park is located at 9 Km from Bhubaneswar. It covers at 990 acres areas. The main attraction of this park is animals are crocodile, pangolins, mouse deer, panthers, blackbucks, etc. The total number of animals in this zoo is 151. Apart from these we can visit many famous Hindu temples there.

• Khandagiri Hill: Khandagiri hill is the famous tourist destination near the Bhubaneswar city. It is located at adjacent on Udayagiri hill. These caves were constructed by King Kharwal during the Second century. This hill place 15 caves which are occupied by Jains. This is an example of Jain culture during the ancient age.
