Sikh shrine at Nanded in the Indian state of Maharashtra. It marks the site where Guru Gobind Singh had his camp in 1708, after the departure of the emperor Bahadur Shah and where in October 2008, the 300th anniversary celebration of the Guruship of Guru Granth Sahib took place.

Different kinds of weapons of Govind Singhji’s time are exhibited here. The Guru gave his last sermon to the Sikhs in this Gurudwara. The Gurdwara is beautifully architected with marble and golden plating. Corners of the roof of the first floor are decorated with domed kiosks on octagonal pedestals.

It is one of the four high seats of Authority of the Sikhs. Guru Gobind Singh, the 10th Sikh Guru died in Nanded and his ashes are covered in the Sach Khand Shri Huzur Gurdwara on the side of the river Godavari. Diverse kinds of weapons of Govind Singhji’s time are exhibited here. The Guru gave his last sermon to the Sikhs in this Gurudwara.

Takhat Sachkhand Sri Hazoor Sahib is the principal shrine at Nanded. . The tenth Guru held his court and congregation here. It is the site of his own tent where he was convalescing after he was attacked by assassins. It is the place from where the tenth Guru rose to heaven along with his horse Dilbag.

Sachkhand (lit. region of Truth) had been used by Guru Nanak Dev to mean the abode of God. The present building of the Takhat Sahib was got constructed by Maharaja Ranjit Singh with money, artisans and labor sent from Punjab during early 1830s. Around the same time the Nizam of Hyderabad raised a contingent of Northern Sikhs as part of his army. Most of these men settled permanently in Hyderabad State. Many militant and righteous Hindus embraced Sikhism in the 18th century.

The control of Takhat Sachkhand Sri Hazoor Sahib, which had formerly passed into the hands of Udasi priests was regained by the Sikhs under the influence of the Singh Sabha Movement of the late nineteenth century. Some of the rituals and ceremonies connected with working are peculiar to this Takhat Sahib. In 1956 an Act was passed by the legislature of Hyderabad under which the management of Takhat Sahib and other historical Gurudwaras was legally placed under a 17 member Gurudwaras Board and a five member Managing Committee.

History

300 years ago in the small town of Nanded, India, the 10th Living Master of the Sikhs, Guru Gobind Singh, bestowed the eternal Guruship for the Sikhs upon Siri Guru Granth Sahib Ji. Siri Guru Granth Sahib is a compilation of Sacred Songs written by the Sikh Gurus, as well as by Hindu and Muslim saints of the time

Interesting things to Visit

A pilgrim Center of great significance. It is considered to be one of the Shaktipeeths of Maharashtra. The temple of Goddess Renuka Devi is situated on a hillock abounding in natural beauty at a distance of about 2.415 km. from the village of Mahur. The temple is said to have been constructed by a Yadava king of Devgiri about eight to nine hundred years ago. Around 5 – 6 lakh pilgrims visit Mahur during the Navaratri Festival – Dussera period.

The Masjid known as the Hazrat Nawab Sarfaraz Khan Sahid Masjid is said to have been constructed about 330 years back. Sarfaraz Khan was an officer in the army of Aurangzeb. The Masjid is constructed in stone has four minarets on the southern side, which collapsed when it was hit by a lightening in 1960. The one on the north has eight chains. Below the chains is a figure in the shape of a bell. To the northwest corner of the Masjid is a barrow (a well square in shape).

Unkeshvar is situated on the bank of river Penganga. The village is famous for its hot water springs. It is situated at a distance of 19 km from Ambadi, a railway station on Mudkhed – Adilabad railway route. At Unakdeva, there is a temple dedicated to the Lord Shiva. Near the temple is a holy tank. It was said to be the abode of the Sage Sarabhanga.

However, the temple is divided into parts, owing to the vastness of its complex. They comprise: Samadhi Mandir, Dwarkamai, Gurushtan and Lendibaug. Samadhi Mandir of Shri Sai Baba was originally owned by a millionaire from Nagpur, a renowned devotee Shreemant Gopalrao. Gopalrao wished to keep an idol of Murlidhar (Krishna) here. However, baba himself transformed himself into Murlidhar, and the Mandir became the Samadhi of Baba.

Hemkund Sahib:
Hemkund Sahib is a revered holy shrine of Sikhs, it is a high altitude lake. Guru Govind Singh, 10th Guru of Sikhs had come here and meditated on the banks of this lake. Hence it became a revered shrine of Sikhs. There is an imposing structure in the shape of star made stone. Sikhs believe that the inner core of Sikhs called Khalsa was introduced by Guru Govind Singh.

Nandaprayag:
Nandaprayag is formed at the confluence of river Alaknanda and Mandakini rivers, both tributaries of holy river Gangas. Many legends are associated with the place. It is believed that a dip in the water here clears one of all his sins.

Adibadri:
AdiBadri is one of the incarnations of Badrinath only. Its a group of 16 ancient temples around 16 kilometres fromn Karnaprayag. The temples date back to the Gupta Dynasty and were restored and sanctioned by Adi Shankaracharya. An idol of Lord Vishnu is worshiped here, a metre long idol made of black stone. The temple is made in pyramid form.

Rudranath Temple:
Rudranath temple at a height of 2286 metres is one of the five Kedarnath temples. A difficult trek of 18 kilometres laid with beautiful meadows and valleys and wilds brings you to Rudranath temple. The views from temple also are truly amazing, you can see Hathi Parvat, Nanda Parvat, Nanda Devi, Nanda Ghanti, Trishuli and other such majestic peaks from temple.

Yogdhyan Badri Temple:
One among the five Badris is Yogdhyan badri, the temple of Yogdhyan badri is located at Pandukeshwar. The temple here has an image of lord Vishnu in meditative position. Yogdhyan Badri is located at an altitude of 1920 metres. it is believed that Pandavas renounced all their worldly attachments here and moved to Himalayas to seek to heavens.

Bhavishya Badri:
Bhavishya badri means future Badri, it is believed that sometime in future, the present shrine of Badrinath will become inaccessible, at that time people will come to worship Bhavishya Badri. The temple is at an elevation of 2744 metres, thick forests surround the temple.
