For a fuller range of dining, Anshun city offers more variety, including local specialties influenced by the region's Buyi and Miao communities. Guiyang, if used as a base, offers the widest choice of Guizhou cuisine, including sour fish hotpot and regional noodle dishes, before or after a day trip to the falls.

Dragon Palace Cave, a large karst cave system with underground rivers, lies within the greater Anshun area not far from Huangguoshu and is commonly combined with it on multi-day itineraries. Anshun's old town and its batik and wax-printing craft traditions offer a cultural counterpoint to the natural scenery. Guiyang, roughly two hours away, serves as the main transport hub and base for onward travel to other parts of Guizhou.

Anshun Railway Station provides the closest major rail connection, roughly 45 kilometers from the falls, with regular and high-speed services to Guiyang. From Anshun, local buses, taxis and organized tour shuttles cover the final stretch to the scenic area. Direct long-distance or tourist buses from Guiyang to Huangguoshu are also widely available, removing the need to change transport in Anshun for those coming straight from the provincial capital.

Expect substantial spray near viewing platforms and the cave path, which can soak clothing and electronics if not protected. Stay within marked paths and behind railings at cliffside viewpoints, and be cautious of crowds on stairs during peak holiday periods. Weather can change quickly in the mountains, so check conditions before setting out.
