About Jodi Sankha Dance

Jodi Sankha is a unique folk dance of Ganjam District, Odisha.  This folk dance is heavy demand throughout the state during the election season. These troupes show the extreme talent of the lung power. Rise of conch shells is mixed with the rhythm of dance. In colorful dresses artists constantly carry two connected coaches through their performance. According to the rhythm of physical movements, they organize the sound of conch shells. The accompanying instruments are traditional drum “Changu” and “Mahuri”. They are also used in the procession of religious and social work.
The main sources of income of these “Jodi Sankha” Mandal were performing during religious, marriage and other procession. Originally a folk dance form in the district of Gnajam. Although modulation of sound of musical instrument with conches is undoubtedly tough, still synchronizing the produced music with movement of bodies requires balance, hard practice, and patient. This folk dance is known at national and international levels.
