About Mithi River or Mahim River

The river rises from the valley near the Sanjay Gandhi National Park at Powai and merges with the Arabian Sea at Mahim Creek. During its course, the river flows through residential and industrial complexes of Powai, Saki Naka, Kurla, Kalina, Vakola, Bandra-Kurla complex, Dharavi and Mahim for fifteen kilometers. The river is narrow in its initial course, which is nearly ten metres in width, but it widens gradually and is wide at the Bandra Kurla complex. The river is fourteen kilometers in length.

Mahim bay area, where Mithi River meets Arabian Sea is a nominated bird sanctuary where migratory birds come for nesting. This part is full of mangroves. When the river was not as polluted as it is today, it used to serve as an important storm water drain for Mumbai but as it has been used as a sewer over the years, its importance as a storm water drain has reduced and on the contrary, it poses as a hazard during high tide bringing polluted water into the city.

Gateway Of India Gateway of India:
The Gateway of India - a 26 mt. Triumphal Archway designed Century to commemorate the visit of King Geoge and Queen Mary to India in 1911 - is Mumbai’s most famous landmark. Ironically, when the Raj ended in 1947, this colonial symbol also became a sort of epitaph: the last of the British ships that set sail for England left from the Gateway.
Behind the arch, there are steps leading down to the water. Here, you can get onto one of the bobbing little motor launches, for a short cruise through Mumbai’s splendid natural harbour.

Essel World:
Gorai Located near the beach, Essel World is the biggest amusement park in India. In addition to the usual roller coaster rides, Essel World Water World offers a section which is a great success in Mumbai ’s sultry weather. However, it is adjacent to the water kingdom east Asia ’s largest water park with slides, theme cruises and the world ’s largest wave pool. Ferries of Gorai Beach will lead you to the Essel World Kingdom and water easily.

Fantasyland:
The country cousin to Essel World, Fantasyland is located in Jogeshwari East. It is a small-scale amusement park, which offers karting, dodge cars and roller coasters.

Hanging Gardens:
Perched at the top of Malabar Hill, on its western side, just opposite the Kamala Nehru Park, these terraced gardens, also known as Ferozeshah Mehta Gardens, provide lovely sunset views over the Arabian Sea. The park was laid out in the early 1880s over Bombay’s main reservoir.

Prince of Wales Museum:
The Prince of Wales Museum at M.G.Road, Kala Ghoda was built to commemorate King George V’s first visit to India in 1905. It was opened to the public in 1923. The museum is open Tuesday to Sunday, 10.15 am to 6 pm. This museum is divided into three sections : art, archaeology and natural history. The ground floor gallery has local sculptures section and a natural history section. This large natural history section has a large selection of Indian birds, stuffed examples of rhinos, monkeys etc. and lions to deer. 2nd floor contains an excellent collection of Indian miniature paintings. Top floor is devoted to porcelain and glassware.

Dr. Bhau Daji Lad Museum:
Dr. Bhau Daji Lad Museum earlier known as the Victoria & Albert Museum is situated at 91A Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar Road, Byculla. This museum is open daily except Wednesdays from 10.30am to 4.30pm. The ground floor contains a collection of bronze sculptures, metal ware, fossils and model ships etc. Ist floor relate to the city’s past.

Marine Drive:
This is one of Mumbai’s most popular promenades and sunset-watching spots. Build on land reclaimed from Back Bay in the 1920s, the marine drive starts from below the hanging gardens on Malabar Hill, runs along the Arabian sea and ends at Nariman point. In the night, the colour full line of lights give a picturesque view.
