This is the house of Poonthanam Namboothiri, an exponent of the Krishna cult of the Bhakthi movement, known for his work, Janappana (song of knowledge).The Poonthanam Day and Navarathri are the main festivals. On the Poonthanam day, special cultural programmes and literary seminars are arranged in the Poonthanam illam. Another deity which is worshiped in the illam is the image of Thirumandamkunnu Bhagavathy. Vishnu is the main deity here. But it is more famous for another deity of Lord Krishna, which was once worshipped by the great poet Poonthanam himself. The successors of Poonthanam Namboodiri gave this property to Guruvayur Devaswom. Sreekrishna Temple where he used to pray is situated nearby.

Conolly Plot:

This is just 2 km from Nilambur Town. The plot was named in memory of H.V. Conolly,the then Malabar District Collector.

Teak Museum:

The well-known Teak Museum is located at Nilambur in the Malappuram district of Kerala. Regarded as the first of its kind in the world and the only one in India; it is a house to the treasures of historical, aesthetic and scientific aspects of Teak. The museum was established on the campus of the sub centre of Kerala Forest Research Institute (KFRI) in 1995.

The Elembalai hill:

This hill is situated on the border of Kerala and Tamilnadu from where the river Chaliyar originates and is clothed in dense forests and bamboo woods that add beauty to the place. The region is a beloved homestead of innumerable birds and animals.

The Kavanakallu Regulator cum bridge:

This bridge was constructed over the Chaliyar river, 13 Kms away from Kondotty hill, the regulator cum bridge has 95 percentage of its construction completed.

Banglavu Kunnu (Bungalow Hill):

Banglavu Kunnu is famous for its winding road where ayurvedic herbs are planted on both the sides of the officers’ cottages(which are now used as forest range offices).

Perinthalmanna:

Perinthalmanna is a town with strong historical and cultural heritage, and for last several centuries, has remained a center of trading and commercial activity for several villages around it, including its hinterland. The town became a municipality on 10 February 1990.

Lord Matha Church:

The first Christian church established at Perinthalmanna city. It is also one of the ancient churches in Malabar. It Is located at Calicut road Perinthalmanna, 650 m from private bus station.

Chakkuvara Temple:

This temple enjoys a special place in the social history Eranadu for having given entry to the Untouchables. It is built in the model Pazhani temple.

Kulirmala :

This hill which lies close to Perinthalmanna town in the highest point from where we can get a glimpse of the whole town and the neighboring places. It has a verdant landscape with water springs.

Adyanpara Waterfall:

Adyanpara is natural waterfall originated from surrounding jungles and the splendour of its lush surrounding jungles.Having its origin from the ever flowing streams of the evergreen forests, this waterfall is live even when the climate is dry. This is a cascading type of waterfall and attracts tourists from the surrounding places.

Angadippuram:

Angadippuram is an important place for both Hindus and Muslims. The Thirumandhakunnu Durga Temple is very famous and an important pilgrimage center of Hindus.

Padinharekkara:

This Padinharekara, the lovely beach is close to Ponnani and at the end point of the Tippu Sultan road. It offers a breath taking view of the confluence of the river Bharathapuzha and Tirurpuzha with the Arabian sea.

Tanur:

The small coastal fishing town of Tanur has one of the earliest Portuguese settlements, situated 8 Kms from Tirur. It is believed that St. Francis Xavier visited the place in 1546.

PONNANI:

Ponnani, the coastal town is famous for trade from ancient times. Now it gains importance as a prominent fishing centre Ponnani is also famous for the ancient Muslim mosque.

Thirunavaya:

This Thirunavaya is just 8 km from the city, This one of those places that has gone down the history of Kerala. This has remained the venue for the ancient but popular traditional event called Mamankam. This unique performance that ultimately led to the choosing of a suitable ruler for Kerala.

Tirurangadi:

Tirurangadi was an important center of the Khilaphath movement, the national movement and the Malabar Rebellion. It was the Tirurangadi incident on 20th August 1921, that ignited the out-break of Malabar Rebellion.

Kadalundi bird sanctuary:

Kadalundi bird sanctuary is the haven giving shelter to more than a hundred varieties of native birds. Every year, over 60 species of migratory birds congregate here in large numbers. Blessed with dense leafy vegetation, silver streams and landscaped surroundings, a tour to Kadalundi Bird Sanctuary is a treat to all bird lovers.

Kadalundi River:

Kadalundi River is situated 20km, away from city, Malappuram district. It originates from the Western Ghats at the western border of the Silent Valley and flows through the district of Malappuram. It has two main tributaries namely Olipuzha and Veliyar.

Teak Museum:

People from nearby towns flock to this reserve forest usually in jeeps with the high anticipation of sighting a wild elephant and imbibe the beauty.

Haig Baracks:

At the shore of Kadlundi River the Haig Baracks, the old British construnction situated, is now the Head Quarters of District Administration.

Kottapadi:

Just below the cantonment hill, the ground called the ‘Kottappadi’ means the Gate of Fort. There was Fort built by British to protect from the attacks of Mysore.

Manjeri:

Manjeri is the Taluk headquarters situated 12 KM from Malappuram. Anti British struggle were started here back in 1790.

Vettakkorumakan Temple:

The Nilambur Silk Festival famous for its hymns by singing by the Royal Family of with the Tribes of Nilambur.

Padinjarekkara Beach:

The Beach offers a wonderful view of the confluence of the Rivers ‘Bharatha Puzha’ and ‘Tirur Puzha’ at the Arabian Sea. It is adjacent to Ponnani.
