Best time to visit Anjuna Beach

November to February is the best season, with pleasant temperatures between 20°C and 30°C. The monsoon months (June to September) bring rough seas and many beach shacks close. Visit on a Wednesday morning for the famous flea market. Early mornings (7:00–10:00 AM) are peaceful; late afternoons and sunset are popular.

How to reach Anjuna Beach

Anjuna is about 18–22 km from Panaji (35–45 minutes by taxi or rented scooter). The nearest railway station is Thivim, about 18–20 km away. Goa International Airport (Dabolim) is about 43 km and Manohar International Airport (Mopa) is about 28–30 km. Regular buses run from Panaji to Mapusa and then to Anjuna. Taxis and app-based cabs are available throughout North Goa.

Open 24 hours, all days. Beach shacks and water sports operate roughly 6:00 AM to 10:00 PM. The famous Anjuna Flea Market is held on Wednesdays from 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM.

Entry fee & tickets

Free. No entry fee for the beach. Parking charges about ₹20 for two-wheelers and ₹50–100 for cars. Sunbeds available from shack operators. Water sports are charged separately (parasailing ~₹800/person, combo packages ~₹1,300/person).

Safety tips

Swim in lifeguard-monitored areas and avoid rocky patches along the northern end of the beach. The currents can be strong during monsoon (June–September) — do not enter the water when red flags are up. Watch your belongings during crowded flea market days. Avoid isolated stretches after dark.

History of Anjuna Beach

Anjuna was a quiet fishing village before it became the epicentre of Goa’s hippie movement in the 1960s–70s. The legendary Anjuna Flea Market was started by hippies selling their belongings to fund extended stays. The beach became synonymous with full-moon parties, trance music, and the bohemian lifestyle. The area retains a unique blend of Goan village culture, alternative spirituality, and vibrant nightlife.

Accessibility

The beach is accessible from the main road by a short walk across sand. Wheelchair access may be limited due to soft sand. The nearest approach road ends at the beach entrance, and beach wheelchairs are generally not available. Visitors with mobility concerns may find the shacks and parking area more accessible than the beach itself.

Rules & restrictions

No lifeguard on duty outside designated hours. Swimming is at your own risk. Alcohol consumption on the beach is permitted in moderation but public drunkenness is discouraged. Littering is prohibited — fines may apply. Plastic bags are banned in Goa — carry reusable bags. Respect local customs: topless sunbathing is illegal in India. Avoid walking on sand dunes. Beach shacks operate on a seasonal basis and are dismantled during monsoon.

Best photography spots

Golden hour (just after sunrise and just before sunset) produces the best beach photography. The northern end of most Goan beaches offers the cleanest compositions with fewer crowds. Elevated viewpoints from cliffs or beach shacks provide wider perspectives. For waterscapes, shoot from the water’s edge during low tide when the wet sand reflects the sky.
