Tansa River

About:

The Tansa River is a small river on Salsett island near Mumbai, and is one of Mumbai's water sources via Tansa Lake. It is embanked by one of the largest masonry dams in the world, built in 1892. The embankment is nearly 2 m. long, 118 ft. high, and 110 ft. thick at the base.

Salsette Island is included in Maharashtra state and lies on the western coast of India. The metropolis of Mumbai and the city of Thane lie on Salsette Island, making it the 14th most populous island in the world.The present Salsette Island was formerly made up of several smaller islands, which were combined together during the 19th and early 20th centuries to form a single island. It is surrounded on the north by Vasai Creek, on the northeast by the Ulhas River, on the east by Thane Creek and Bombay Harbour, and on the south and west by the Arabian Sea.

Juhu Beach:
Juhu Beach is the most famous beach in Mumbai city. It is situated on the shores of Arabian Sea in Juhu suburb.
There are three main entrances to the beach. One is from the Vile Parle side, another is from the Santacruz side and the third one is from the Andheri side.Many tourists make it a point to visit the beach when they come to Mumbai, as it is a relatively uncrowded free space in the city, although it does get crowded in the evenings and weekends.

Sanjay Gandhi National Park:
The Borivali National Park, officially known as the Sanjay Gandhi National Park, is a unique National Park in that it lies within the borders of a city.[citation needed] The park lies on the northern fringes of suburban Mumbai, India. It encompasses an area of 104 square kilometres and is surrounded on three sides by India's most populous city. It is one of Asia's most visited National Parks with 2 million annual visitors. The park also holds claim to be the largest park in the world located within city limits.


There are many beautiful lakes around the city. Yeur Hills is an ideal getaway from the city rush. Titwala (45 km) is pilgrim centre with Maha Ganesh Temple and Temple of Shri Vithoba. The 11th century Ambarnath Temple is nearby. Bhiwandi (40 kms) is famous for its hot water springs and the 800 year-old temple.

The ancient port and ruins at Kalyan, Tikuji-Ni-Wadi, the Portuguese ruins at Bassein or Vasai and Kashi and Mira the two scenic villages are great places for excursions. Jawhar Palace known for Dadara Kopra Falls, Jai Vilas Palace of the tribal kings also home to Warli paintings, and the picturesque Shirpamal and Matheran Hills (80 km) at an altitude of 800m, are interesting places to visit.

The many beautiful beaches at Gorai, Aksa, Madh, and Marve and sea-side destinations like Alibaug, Chawl, Manori, and Murud-Janjira are worth visiting.
