Travel Rules or Entry Requirements for Turkey
Main Rule
Turkey’s entry requirements depend on your nationality, passport type, purpose of travel, and length of stay. Some travelers can enter without a visa, some need an e-Visa, and others must apply for a sticker visa before travel.
Passport Validity
Turkey generally requires travelers to carry a passport or travel document that is valid for at least 6 months from the date of arrival. In many cases, your passport must also remain valid for at least 60 days beyond the duration of your permitted stay.
Visa or e-Visa Requirement
Many visitors need either a visa or an e-Visa before traveling to Turkey. The requirement depends on your nationality and the type of passport you hold. Travelers visiting for tourism or business may be eligible for an e-Visa if their country qualifies.
e-Visa Details
If you are eligible, you can apply online for a Turkish e-Visa. After approval and payment, you receive the e-Visa electronically. It is a good idea to carry a printed copy or keep a digital copy with you during travel.
Sticker Visa Applications
If you are not eligible for visa-free entry or an e-Visa, you usually need to apply for a sticker visa through a Turkish embassy, consulate, or authorized visa application center before your trip.
Documents You May Need at Entry
At the border, you may be asked to show a valid passport, a visa or e-Visa if required, proof of accommodation, return or onward travel details, and proof that you have enough money for your stay. Additional supporting documents may also be required depending on your nationality.
Special Rule for Cruise Travelers
Some travelers arriving in Turkey by cruise ship may be allowed to enter without a visa for a short period, usually up to 72 hours, subject to local permission and travel conditions.
For Indian Travelers
Indian travelers should check the rules carefully before travel. Some Indian passport holders may be eligible for a Turkish e-Visa only if they also hold a valid visa or residence permit from certain countries such as the Schengen area, the United States, the United Kingdom, or Ireland. Others may need to apply for a regular sticker visa.
Important Tip
Even if you have a valid visa or e-Visa, you should travel with the same passport used during the application process and keep all supporting documents ready. Entry conditions can vary depending on nationality, so it is always best to check the latest official requirements before booking your trip.
