Athisayam is a water theme park located about 15 km from Madurai, on Madurai - Dindigul road, in Tamil Nadu.With its high-tech entertainment facilities, the park offers a thrilling experience to the visitors. It is a perfect place for tourists during the summer season.

Bay Watch, located in Kanyakumari is unique in many ways. With the recently added wax museum, Bay watch is the only park in Asia to house one. The wax museum being the first of its kind in this part of the world has caught up with the imagination of the people. Baywatch at sunset point Kanyakumari is also the first seaside amusement park in India.

The water theme park, Athisayam is located about 12kms from Madurai near Samayanallur, on Madurai - Dindigul road. The park, sprawling over 40.acres of land with more than 40 games offers a thrilling experience to the visitors. The park has two sections; i.e water park and dry park. The water rides in the.park include Entrance Shower, Big Splash, Crazy River Slide, Wave Pool, Water Trumpolin etc and the dry park has rides such as tora tora, jumping frog, kids lazy.river, baby train, caterpillar, cup and saucer etc. The artificial Courtallam waterfalls, will give visitors a near to real experience of taking bath in Courtallam.falls. The park has a play station for kids to enjoy video games, ball throws, travel in glass lifts and many more. Food from outside is not allowed inside the park.It has several rest areas with stalls that offer ice cream, coffee and snacks. Located 21 kms northwest of Madurai is Vishnu Temple on a picturesque wooded hill. Here ?Vishnu? presides as Meenakshi?s brother ?Azhagar?. During the Chithirai Festival in April/May. When the celestial marriage of Meenakshi to Sundareswarar is celebrated, Azhagar proceed to Madurai. A Gold processional icon called the Azhagar is carried by devotes in procession from Alagarkoil to Madurai for the wedding ritual. Thousands of devotees participate in the festival.

History:

Madurari was a magnificent capital of Pandia King and that too an elegant capital visited by foreign travelers like Megasthenes B.C. 302 Pliny AD 77 and Ptolemy AD 140 Marco Polo an itinerant traveler also visited this historical city in AD 1203 and lbn Batuta in 1333 AD. This famous city also has been mentioned in the popular Epic Ramayana.

Goripalayam Mosque:
The Gandhi Museum of MaduraiThere is a large mosque in Goripalayam containing two tombs of two Delhi Sultans of the Madurai sultanate. Here, the dome is 70 ft. in diameter and 20 ft. in height. But, the strange fact is that it was made of a single block of stone. It is said that Thirumalai Nayak built this for his Muslim subjects.

Meenakshi Temple:
On the temple ceiling, the scenes of Kumara Sambhava and the marriage of Goddess Meenakshi with Sundareswara are painted. The statues of Subramanya and Vinayaka can be seen at the entrance. The passage is the beautiful sculpture of Siva and Meenakshi as a huntress. The mandapam has thousand pillars and it is a real museum of Dravidian art and architecture. The Ardhanari idol carved by Thirumalai Nayak can also be seen here. The sculptures of Lord Nataraja can be seen here in a different style instead of raising his left leg up, he plays it vice versa. The dancing hall here is called Velliambalam and the idol is plated with silver.

Tirumala Nayak Mahal:
Tirumala Nayak Mahal is 1.5km north of Meenakshi temple. This Palace was built in 1636 by King Thirumalai Nayak with the help of an Italian Architect. The original Palace Complex was four times bigger than the present structure. This palace consisted mainly of two parts, namely Swargavilasa and Rangavilasa. Visit to Palace: Daily from 0900 to 1300 and 1400 to 1700. The Pillars here can be hold around by at least 4 members joints their hands. The Sound and Light show, shown here is excellent. Show starts at 1845. This show dramatizes Madurai's past. U might have seen this in Film Bombay in song " Kannalanae "

Tirupparankundram:
A cave temple, which is, situated 10 kilometers south of Madurai. It is one of the six abodes of Lord Murugan, the second son of Shiva. Its innermost shrine is cut out of solid rock. Legend says that Murugan got married Deivanai, Indira's daughter in this hill.

Alagar Koil:
Alagar temple, dedicated to Lord Vishnu is situated 19 kilometers west of the city, at the bottom of Alagar Hills. Lord Vishnu appears here in three poses sitting, standing and reclining each being depicted one above the other. This temple is older than Meenakshi temple. Legend says that Vishnu came down to this place from heaven to give away Meenakshi in marriage to Sundareswara.

Pazhamudhir Cholai:
Pazhamudhir Cholai is a temple situated 2 kilometers away from Alagar Koil on a small hillock. This is another one of the six abodes of Lord Murugan.
