About Simplapi National Park: |
Simplapi National Park is a beautiful and picturesque place, located in the Mayurbhanj district of Odisha state, India. Simlipal National Park is its name from the abundance of semul (red silk cotton trees) which bloom here. It was India's second largest national park. Simlapal National Park is also a tiger reserve and here you can see many species of flora and fauna. Apart from this you can see 99 royal Bengal tiger and 432 wild elephants. Apart from it, It is famous for Goure (Indian Chains), Choussinga, and an Orchidarium. It is part of the Silipil-Kodiha-Hadgadh Elephant Reserve which is known as the Mayurbhanj Elephant Reserve. |

History of Simplapi National Park: |
National Park is an area which is strictly reserved for the wellbeing of wildlife and biodiversity, and where such activities like grazing on development, forest, hunting, hunting and farming are not permitted. Their boundaries are well marked and straightforward. In 1979 the Odisha government declared the Simlipal as a Wildlife Sanctuary, in which there were 2,200 square kilometers (850 sq mi) area. Later in 1980, the State Government proposed 303 sq. Km (117 sq mi) of the sanctuary in the form of National Park, in addition to this, the area of National Park increased to 845.70 square kilometers (326.53 square miles) in 1986. . In the year 1994, Government of India declared Siolipal as a biosphere reserve. UNESCO added its National Park to the Biosphere Reserve in May 2009. There are 10,000 people living in 61 villages in the forest. This is the reason why despite being one of India's 18 biosphere, Similipal has not yet been declared a fully-developed park. |
