About Rajarani Temple : |
The Rajarani temple is the finest example of ancient architecture of ancient times. Located in the northeast of the Lingaraj temple, this temple was built in the middle of the 11th century. It is one of the most visited temples of Bhubaneswar. The interesting thing is that there is no statue in the temple's womb. The first Hindu temple was considered as a Prem Mandir, probably for this reason there is no statue here. On the wall of the temple, some sexuous carving of men and women has been done. Due to the use of yellow sandstone in construction, this temple was named Rajarani. Archaeological Survey of India maintains this temple and has to take ticket to enter it.

History of Rajarani Temple :Based on sculptural architectural style, the temple is in the middle of the 11th century. Brown, groups the temple along with Anant Vasudev Temple and places it around 11th century. In 1953 another survey of Orissa temples performed by S. S. Saraswati presents a similar date. Panigrahi, which performs extensive analysis of the Orion temples, gives an unspecified date between the Lingaraj temple and the Muktewara temple. Ferguson believes that the construction of the temple started around 1105. George Michael believes that the temple was built during the same time as the Lingaraja Temple. The Rajarani temple is of Jagannath temple in Puri in the same period. The architecture of other temples in Central India was originated from the temple. The Khajuraho temple and Totasar Mahadev temple in Kadwa are notable in the category. Scholars believe that on the basis of this style the temple may have been built by Somavasi kings who had gone from Central India to Orissa during this period. Rajarani temples are housed as a stamped monument by the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI).
