  • History of Odisha Maritime Museum:

This place is the only workshop starting around 1869, which meets the requirement of three provinces of Bihar, Bengal and Odisha under the Bengal Presidency of British India. It was established in 1866 after the Great Famine of Odisha, immediately after the efforts of a Scottish engineer Mr. G. H. Faulkner, was established by the then PWD Department of the British Administration, which is called "Naa Anka Durviksha".

This museum has demonstrated rich maritime historical records and traditions. In the earlier days, sailors used universal bodies such as sun, moon, and stars for navigational purposes. Later scientific development, compass, and other devices were used by navigator. The Odisha Maritime Museum has ancient artifacts which reveal the historical development in the ocean. You will find ships and other important exhibitions for the British rule from the middle Ages. There are ten galleries that exhibit Kalinga artifacts. In the Introduction Gallery, you will find different images of boats and cargo ships with their description.
