About Jagannath Rath Yatra:

Jagannath Rath Yatra is one most-awaited is Odisha as well as India. Jagannath Rath Yatra is an annual program which is celebrated in the months of June or July. According to traditional Oriya calendar, this festival is celebrated on the 2nd day of the Shukla Paksha, Ashadh month. It is dedicated to Lord Jagannath (Lord Krishana), his sister Goddess Subhadra and his elder brother Lord Balabhadra. It is also called Gundicha Yatra, Chariot festival, Dasavatara and Navadina Yatra. Jagannath Rath Yatra is organized in Puri. It is believed that every year Lord Jagannath wants to visit his birth place Mathura for a few days. To fulfill this wish, this Yatra is done every year from the Jagannath temple to the temple of Gundicha.

The major attractions of Jagannath Rath Yatra are wide chariots. Preparation of chariot begins on the day of Akshay Tritiya. There are three main chariots, which are pulled with hands using long ropes, which are 50 meters in length. It is believed that by pulling this rope like adding your good Karma and doing penance of your bad deeds. Artists decorate these chariots beautifully with the help of decorations, motifs and paint. During the return Yatra, the Bahuda Yatra makes a halt at the Mausi Maa temple.
