About Baagh Naach: |
Baagh naach also known as Tiger dance is a folk dance form which is widely enjoyed by the peoples of Odisha. This dance form is generally performed in Binka, Sonepur of Subarnapur district and apart from that in some part of Ganjam district. In Berhampur the goddess Budhi Thakurani’s idol taken out to her temporary abode at Desibehera Street in the month of March–April which is known as Thakurani Yatra Festival. In this yatra festival Baagh naach especially performed by professional dancers, who undergo tremendous training routines, in order to possess the unique skills, to display the dance. In Baagh naach male dancers paints there bare body with yellow and black straps and they also attach a tail in their back. They completely dressed and makeup to express themselves as tiger this is the reason this folk dance is known as Baagh Naach. There is a drummer and a bell player with dancers who provides music to them. Dance move involves mostly acrobatics movements, every steps of the dance are fast and vigorous and hence it demands enthusiasm and high energy level in the dancer. They make hissing sounds to attract audiences to see their performance. When they perform this folk dance the whole view is worth watching. |
