About Badanalla Dam:

Badanalla Dam is a lesser-known but scenic location ideal for travelers looking to explore Odisha's natural beauty. The dam primarily serves as an irrigation source for the surrounding region, helping local agriculture thrive.
The Project was cleared by the Planning Commission in the year 1980. Administrative approval of the project was accorded for Rs.1336.00 Lacks by the earst while Irrigation & Power Dept. of Govt. of Orissa vide letter no. 40439 dt.20.10.1982. The revised cost of the project stands Rs.10588.22 Lacs as per schedule of rates 1994.
As per original programme it was contemplated to complete the project works within 10 years form the date of commencement. Due to rise of cost of materials and financial constraint, the progress of the project got suffered. Then the project was included under World Bank aided WRCP Scheme Completion for completion of balance works. The date of completion was reschedules to the year 1999.
The main components of the project are Dam & Dykes, Spillway, and Head race of the main canal. Main canal and branches Distributaries, Minors and Water courses.
The words of Dam, Dykes, Spillway and Head Race of Main Canal and erection of 8 nos. of Radial Gates are already completed. Excavation of Main Canal, Branch Calans and Distributaries are completed. In case of minors and sub-minors the progress is about 66.50% of WRCP works. The Planning and design of Water Courses and Drainage system have already been completed by M/s GMS Power Packs Pvt. Ltd., Bhubaneswar. The components covered under WRCP are enclosed in Annexure-I for information.
The G.C.A. of the project is 13065 Ha and the ultimate potential (C.C.A.) of the project is 9800 Ha. Being 75% of G.C.A... The designed ayacut during for Khariff crop is 8653 Ha. While that of Rabi is 4950 Ha. Potential created prior to WRCP i.e. 1995 is 4000 Ha. Potential created during WRCP is 4400 Ha. Hence total irrigation potential created since inception of the project up to Khariff-2002 is 8400 Ha. And programme for 2002-03 is Nil. However irrigation water has been supplied during Khariff- 2003 to an extent of around 5000Ha due to lean monsoons and acute shortage of inflow of water into the reservoir.
