Konark is a small city in the Puri District in Odisha. The Konark city is situated in 65 Km from Bhubaneswar. The main attraction of the city is Sun Temple. The Konark temple is considered as the finest temple devoted to the Sun God. There are many other ancient temples here are located. The Konark Dance Festival which is the most famous festival in Konark. Three-day cultural festival, organized every year in the month of December, is visited by hundreds of tourist. Dance Festival represents some of the major Indian classical dance forms and folk dances.
The Konark temple, which shows a chariot with 24 huge wheels pulled by 7 horses, is believed to have been wandering on a drawn carriage taken on seven horses by the Sun God through heaven. This is definitely one of the glory of the crown of ancient architecture. Konark is a part of Orissa's Golden Triangle, which includes Bhubaneswar, Konark and Puri.

  • History of Konark City:

    Konark is actually the integration of the two words, "Kona", which means "corner" and "Arka" which means sun. The earliest mention of Konark in the history of Konark is in the Puranans, when this place was referred to as Mundira or Mundirasvamin. This name was later replaced by Konaditya or Konarka. Konark is a busy port that shares mutually beneficial business relations with Southeast Asian countries. The construction of the very famous Sun Temple, which is still in Konark, is credited to King Narashimdev of Ganga Dynasty. The construction of this temple was a commemoration of his victory over the Muslims. Later the temple had to face neglect and was blamed by the Mughal emperor, Jahangir's ambassador.

    Ramachandi Temple: The Ramachandi temple is located at the banks of Kusabhadra River which flows into the Bay of Bengal. A very old Devi temple. This temple is dedicated to Goddess Ramachandi.
