Keonjhar is a city with a municipality in Keonjhar district of Odisha state of India. It is the administrative headquarters of Keonjhar District. It is situated in the northern in Odisha. Keonjhar is a beautiful tourist place. History of Keonjhar Orissa is as interesting. Before becoming a part of Orissa, the district of Keonjhar was a princely state. It is believed that Keonjhar was a part of the old Khijjinga area, which was headquartered in Khijjinga Kota. |
This was identify with modern Khiching. Later in the first half of the 12th century it became a separate state under the rule of Jyoti Bhanja. History of Keonjhar states that during the reign of Pratap Balabhadra Bhanja in the 18th century, Tilo and Jujhpada were added to the state. Later, in 1804, King Janardan Bhanj was recognized as part of the Keonjhar State by the East India Company. After this happens there is no changes in Keonjhar areas. However for some administrative reasons, the Tilo and Jujhpada were shifted in the districts of Baleshwar and Cuttack.
