Sacred Heart Church is one of the oldest church in Orissa located at sector 19, Hamirpur, Rourkela which is a Roman catholic church and belongs to Roman Catholic Diocese of Rourkela. This is not that big in size but one of the beautiful church which gardens are surrounded by beautiful flowers and trees. Interior architecture of Sacred Heart Church is simple but one of the best you can find in any church in Orissa. This church is spread in the area of 3,736 sq mi. Bishop Kishore Kumar Kujur is the head of this church. |

History Sacred Heart Cathedral:This church was built by Society of Jesus priests. First they built church in Keshramal in the year 1908 and after that in the year 1918 Sacred Heart church was established. In the starting it was a part of Sambalpur Diocese but later in 1979 when Sambalpur diocese was separated than Rourkela Diocese formed and from than to till now its run by cathedral of Rourkela Diocese. |

Flight – Rourkela has an air strip but that one is dedicated to Rourkela steel plant and for important dignitaries and VVIPs only. There is no flight service for general public. The nearest domestic airport is Ranchi airport which is around 226KM away and Biju Patnaik International airport Bhubaneswar is around 343 KM from here. Bus – There are various bus services available from various districts of Orissa like Bhubaneswar, Balasore, and Cuttack etc. and apart from that various bus services also available from other states like Chhattisgarh, Jharkahnd, Westbengal. Railways – Rourkela has very good railway connectivity there are three railway stations in this city Rourkela Junction (ROU), Panposh (PPO) & Bondamunda (BNDM). These railway stations are well connected through main line from Howrah, Mumbai, Delhi, Chennai, Bangalore, Ahmedabad, Ranchi, Pune, Dhanbad and from various other cities. Other Ways – NH 143, NH 55, NH 215 passing through Rourkela. So, you can easily visit via private cab or cars to this place. |
