Borivili National Park
This is a 104 sq.km park is just 40 minutes from the city centre. Once you walk into the national park, you will be overawed by the 109 kanheri caves, which line the side of the rocky ravine in the center of the park. Dating back to the 2nd and 9th centuries, these Buddhist caves are open to the public between 9am – 5:30pm daily. Soak in the wonders of nature. Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus
Sir F. W. Stevens’ work remains unrivalled in terms of architectural genius, detail and magnatude. The entire structure cost amounted to an estimated Rs. 16.36 lakh! It was planned at a pivotal spot between the docks and the harbour behind. It was completed in May 1888. It was regarded as the second most photographed building in Asia in the nineteenth century, after the Taj Mahal.
Crawford Market
It was set up with the unflagging drive and support of the city’s first Municipal Commissionner Arthur Crawford, who assumed office in 1865. This huge wholesale maket is the ideal way to soak in the bustle, chaos and old-world charm of the Indian bazaar of yore. It covers an unbelievable 60,200 sq mts.!
Elephanta Caves
The Elephanta Caves are located one and a half hour (by boat) out of Mumbai in the harbour. The site of these magnificent caves contains beautiful reliefs, sculptures, and a temple to the Hindu god, Lord Siva. Gateway of India
Located in South Mumbai, the Gateway of India is a monumental arch built 26 meters high, made in yellow sandstone, according to 16th century Gujarati architectural style. It was constructed between 1915 to 1924 to commemorate the visit of King George V of England and Queen Mary to the city in 1911. This was the only way to enter India at that time. General Post Office
It is to architect John Begg that one must credit the Indo-Saracenic design of the General Post Office. This is considered Begg’s most well-known design and was completed on March 31, 1913. The central dome of this structure bears a resemblance to Bijapur’s Gol Gumbaz. Its central hall rises through the height of the building to the dome. It was built of basalt with deressings of yellow and white stone.
Haji Ali Mosque
The tomb of a Muslim Saint who died while on pilgrimage to Mecca. It is believed that a casket containing his mortal remains floated and came to rest ona rocky bed in teh sea, where devotees contrsucted the tomb and mosque.

Horniman Cirlce Garden
Quiet paths leading in from this garden’s beautiful black and gold gates provide a calm retreat. Named after BG Horniman, the Bombay Chronicle editor who participated in India’s freedom movement, the garden has an area for staging school events, poetry readings, music performances and theatre workshops. Jehangir Art Gallery
The heart of the Kala Ghoda square is undoubtedly the Jehangir Art Gallery. Mani Bhavan (Gandhi House)
Mani Bhavan is the Mumbai residence of Mahatma Gandhi. Today, it is a symbolic exhibit that displays his old chakra (spinning wheel- an art of spinning your own yarn), sandals, and pictures of events from his life. Marine Drive
Marine Drive - Queen’s Necklaceprior to the 1920’s, this was a stretch of restless azure sea, but when this strip of land was reclaimed along the Backbay, it transformed itself into one of the most recognisable parts of this city and easily one of the most beautiful promenades. The entire drive was more or less complete by 1940.
Nehru Planetarium
The Planetarium recreates an image of the sky as seen from anywhere in the world at any time. On a clear day one can actually observe the solar system with the help of the Planetarium telescope. It is well-renowned for its astronomy, science related activites and exhibitions.

Prince of Wales Museum
This museum houses the impressive collection of Indus Valley artifacts from Harappa and Mohenjo Daro, dating back more than 5,000 years. It has a collection of valuable artifacts, ivory carvings and status from Elephanta Island and the Jogeshwari caves. Besides these, there is a large collection of miniature paintings from various historical periods and stylistic schools of India. George Wittest designed this museum; it opened in 1923 and is built in the grand Indo-Saracenic style.

Sir J. J. School of Art & Architecture
The country’s premier art institute, this scholl bears the name of the renowned city father and benefactor Sir Jamsetjee Jeejeebhoy. Its first pupils were admitted way back in 1857. However, the present building, with sloping tiled roofs and rounded pillars, was built much later in 1877. Many public and private buildings throughout west India owe their murals, paintings, carvings, etc. to the students of this institution.

Lonavla
There are many natural and artificial lakes, which lie scattered around the countryside. There is the possibility of fishing in these lakes but since some of these areas are restricted, it’s best to check with the local officials befir eyou cast your fly! The old Christian Cemetery with very old and intriguing headstones is worth a walk through. Do check out Duke’s Nose, named after the Duke of Wellington’s apparently famous appendage. And don’t forget the chikki that is synonymous with Lonavla. There are also delicious pickles and fudge. Treks for the outdoor enthusiasts are plenty. For those who like to walk for a purpose, there are some Buddhist caves in Karla and Bhaja, just outside Lonavla towards Pune.

Nasik
Welcome to the grape capital of Maharashtra on the banks of the holy Godavari. Surrounded by nice hills, Nasik has it all: temples, orchards, wineries and industry. Head for Panchavati-Ramkund, where Lord Ram, Laxman and Sita stayed during their exile. It plays host to the great Hindu religious festival, the Kumbh Mela. One can picnic at the Dudhsagar Waterfalls, check out the Nandur Madhmeshwar sanctuary with its 450 plant varieties, different species of insects and migratory birds. And do make a trip to Sula Vineyard’s exciting Tasting Room with a café too.

Kashid
Kashid beach, wedged between two rocky outcrops reaching out into the sea. It is probably the finest beach in the entire stretch from Mandwa down to Murud- Janjira. It has access to a ponderous sea-fort, a lonely lighthouse and a bird of paradise.

Pune
Pune is considered the cultural capital of Maharashtra. Peeking through between the spanking new glass and concrete is still the erstwhile capital of the Peshwas, and of the Bombay Presidency. In the heart of Pune, the narrow streets with the elevated otlas(platforms) typical of the peth can still be chanced upon. The city grew as a series of peths, or what we may today call wards.
