Tadoba National Park is the oldest National Park in the state and a treasure trove of some of the most amazing flora and fauna.It is located 100 km south of Nagpur and 45 km north of Chandrapur. All nature as well as animal lovers will thoroughly enjoy a visit to the Tadoba National Park, Maharashtra. Covering an extensive area of 625 km, the Tadoba National Park, Maharashtra is located in the midst of a reserved forest.

Thickly forested hills form the north and western boundaries of the Tiger Reserve. To the southwest is the huge Tadoba lake, which acts as buffer in between the Park Forest and the extensive farmland extending right up to the Irai Lake. The national park is a heaven for wildlife enthusiasts and nature lovers and is aptly called 'The Jewel of Vidarbha'.The main attraction is its jungle safari. A 12-seater minibus is also available at Tadoba for jungle safari for the convenience of the visitors. You will see large herds of Chitals, Sambars, Barking Deer, Chausingha and Neel Gai as you drive by. You would be lucky to spot a sloth bear, wild dog, wild boar and leopard who are other inhabitants of this beautiful wildlife sanctuary. Ornithologists will get to see as many as 181 species of birds, including water birds.The rich deciduous forests of the reserve are blessed with a rich and varied flora and fauna.

The rich, dry deciduous forests are full of enchanting jungle trails. Experienced trekking guides are available to take tourists to the different points of interest. Wild life viewing has been made all the more easier with the help of observation towers and 'machaans' where animals are sighted especially at dusk.

History:

The Tadoba National Park, Maharashtra was initially a wild life sanctuary created way back in 1935,it achieved the status of a National Park in 1955 and came under the Project Tiger only in 1993.The name is derived from a local god, 'Taru'.The legend goes that the village chief 'Taru' was killed in an epic fight with a tiger.He is worshipped by all the local villagers as the diety of 'Taboda'.

The vegetative cover of the Tadoba National Park, Maharashtra comprises of rich dry deciduous forest variety. Sal, Margosa, Mahua and Mango are some of the trees found here. It is indeed a very pleasurable experience to walk along the nature trails of this park.

The Tadoba Lake laced by bamboo groves within the premises of this park is home to the Marsh Crocodile which was once very common in Maharashtra. Their number is currently on the decline but they are seen here. Bird Lovers will also enjoy a visit to the Tadoba National Park, Maharashtra. TADOBA - ANDHARI Tiger Reserve:
It represents a unique habitat for wildlife in Central India. Tadoba Andhari Tiger Reserve comprises of Tadoba National Park and Andhari wildlife Sanctuary. The National park derives its name from local tribal god "Taru" whereas the Andhari river flowing through the forests gives the sanctuary its name. The forests mainly consists of teak and bamboo interspersed with grassy meadows while Tadoba is rugged hilly terrain. The area has a wide and rich range of flora and fauna. Teak and bamboo trees dominate southern deciduous forests. There is vast diversity in fauna and various types of species are found here.

The major attraction in this place is the presence of tigers. the large herds of Chital and the stately Samber are often seen in the forest. Other attractions include the elusive barking Deer, the fleet footed Chausinga. The majestic Gaur, the robust Nilgai, The shy Sloth Bear, the whistling wild dogs, the omnipresent wild Boar and stealthy Leopard etc

Fort of Gond Raja, Mahakali Temple and Anchaleshwar Temple (Lord Shiva) are the main places to visit in Chandrapur. The fort has four gates (Jatpura, Anchaleshwar, Pathanpura and Bimba) and 4 windows. This fort divides this city in two parts. Tadoba-Andheri Tiger Reserve also known as Tadoba National Park is located approximately 45 km from the city.
