About:

Bhind District is a district of Madhya Pradesh state in central India of Chambal region. The town of Bhind is also the district headquarter.Bhind is one of the 48 districts of Madhya Pradesh, surrounded by Agra and Etawa districts of Uttar Pradesh in the North and Gwalior and Datia districts in the South. The eastern boundary is closed by the districts of Etawah, Auraiya and Jalaun of Uttar Pradesh in the East, where as the western and north-western boundaries are common with Morena district. The north western boundary is marked by the Asan and the Kunwari rivers, the northern and eastern boundaries being traversed by the Chambal and the Pahuj.

Bhind is one among the 16 districts of United State of Madhya Bharat which was constituted on 28th May 1948. Subsequently, as a result of reorganization of States in November 1956, Bhind became a part of new Madhya Pradesh. The district lies in the Chambal Valley. It forms the south-western part of Ganga Valley. The hlls are only a few, small and isolated, mostly in the south west.

Location info:

Bhind District is situated in Chambal region in the northwest of the state. The geographical coordinates of the district are Latitude 26°36' N and Longitude 78°46' E. It is bounded by Agra, Etawah, Jalaun and Jhansi districts of Uttar Pradesh state to the north and the east, and the Madhya Pradesh districts of Datia to the south, Gwalior to the southwest, and Morena to the west. The geography of the district is characterized by uneven ravines, plain fertile fields and scanty forests. The total area of the district is 4,459 km².

Climate/Weather:

The Climate of Bhind is characterized by general dryness, except during the south-west monsoon season. The year may be divided into  4 seasons. The winter  season is from December to February is followed by the summer season  from March to about middle of June . The period from Middle of June to about the end of September is the south-west monsoon season. October and November constitute the post-monsoon or retreating monsoon season.

RainFall:

The average annual rainfall of Bhind is 668.3 mm.The spatial variation of the district is not too much. About 92% of the annual rainfall is received in the south-west monsoon months. On an average there are 33 rainy days in a year. The heaviest rainfall in the 24 hours recorded at any station in the district was 295.9mm at Bhind on 6th September, 1910.

Temperature:

There is no meteorological observatory in Bhind. After February the temperature increases steadily till  May , when the mean daily temperature is about 46 0 C and the mean daily minimum is about 280 C.  In the June the mean daily temperature is higher than in may by a couple of degrees.  The heat in summer is intense and the dust laden scorching winds which blow often add much to the discomfort. With onset of monsoon in district by about middle of June, there is an appreciable drop in the temperature. After October day and night temperature decrease rapidly. January is greatly the coldest  month  with the mean daily maximum temperature at about 230 C, and the mean daily minimum at about 80 C. In 2003 it dropped to about 2-30 C. In the cold season in the rear of passing western disturbances, cold waves affect the District and the minimum temperature may drop down to about a degree below the freezing point of water

History of Bhind

The district is named after the mythological Hindu saint Vibhandak Rishi, also called Bhindi Rishi. During Vedic period this region was ruled by Yadu, the son of King Yayati. Historically during Mahabharat Era, this region was under the reign of Chedi King Shishupal. King Yadav Krishna later established Yadav rule in this area. During Mahajanapada period Chedi had prominent position. Later this area came under Chandels. Later on Prithivi Raj Chauhan defeated Chandels and brought Bhind under Chauhan Dynasty. This area later ruled by Bhadorias (or Bhadaurias, Bhadoriyas) in the north and Jats in the south. The State of Madhya Bharat was formally inaugurated by Jawaharlal Nehru, the then Prime Minister of India, on 28 May 1948 at Gwalior. Scindia and Holkar were sworn in as the Rajpramukh and Up-Rajpramukh, respectively. It was decided to divide the Union into six districts and Bhind was one among them. As a result of reorganization of states Madhya Bharat was added to Madhya Pradesh state 1 November 1956.

It is well known fact that the region has been subjected to depredations of dacoits, robbers or thugs since ages. The majestic Chambal, surrounded yawning chasms and gaping beehads (ravines) provide an ideal setting to this murky banditry in a big way. Even during Mughal times the powerful administration failed to curb these menace. As many as 216 dacoits were shot dead and 697 arrested in Bhind district alone from 1959 to 1963.
With 14,28,559 persons living on an area of 4459 sq km, the district ranks 20th in population ranking in the State having about 2% of the state's population (As per 2001 census). The Sex ratio of the district according to 2001 census is 829.Rural sex ratio is 825 and Urban is 843. The sex ratio is the number of females per 1000 males.

The soil of Bhind is very fertile and is well drained by the Chambal and Sind rivers and the tributary streams of the Kunwari and Puhuj.

Tourist Attraction of Bhind:

FORT OF ATER:

It was built by Bhadauria King Badan Singh, Maha Singh and Bakhat Singh in the era 1664-1668 after them the area is known as "BADHWAR". It is located deep inside the ravines of Chambal. Now it is in a dilapidated condition. It is located 35 Kms in west of the Bhind city. Transportation is available from 6 Am to 4 Pm. One can go by bus or jeep which are easily available from the Bus stand/ Ater Road. The main attractions of the fort are 'Khooni Darwaza', 'Badan Singh Ka Mahal', 'Hathiapor', 'Raja Ka Bangla', 'Rani Ka Bangla' and 'Barah Khamba Mahal'.

Another fort situated in the Bhind city was also built by Bhadoriya King to keep control over rebellions in the era 1654-1684. During Scindia reign Darbar hall was constructed in which at present a museum is conducted by District Archeological Association Bhind (M.P).

VANKHANDESHWAR TEMPLE:

It is located in Bhind town. It is a Shiv Mandir built by the Mandir built by the king, Prathwiraj Chauhan in 1175 AD. It is told that "Jyoti" is continously flamed since then.

THE JAIN TEMPLES OF BARANSO:

These are the old temples and their existence is located to the visit of Lord Mahavir Swami in the area.Located on Bhind Gwalior Road , 5 Kms in south east of Bhind. The only available means of transport are tanga or personal vehicle.The temple of Lord Mahavira is situated at Barason in Mehgaon tehsil. In Jain tradition, it is among the Atishaya kshetra, i.e. a place where lord Mahavira visited during his journey after getting Kaivalya (Ultimate Realization) and some miraculous things took place. This holy place is situated 14 km from Bhind town. Other Atishaya kshetra Jain temples are Pavai near Bhind town and Barahi, which is 20 km from Bhind at the Bhind-Etawah district border on the banks of the Chambal.

MATA RENUKA TEMPLE AT JAMDARA:

It is located in Gohad Tehsil near Mau and is told as the birthplace of Maharshi Parashuram. Folklore linked to Parashuram is that his father ordered to cut the head of Mother Renuka which he complied with and as a prize asked for revival of the dead Mother which Maharshi Jamdagini, his father solicited.The temple was built at the place of this activity.In the temple the idol of Deity Mother Renuka with a separated head is there in the temple.

NARADDEV TEMPLE:

It is a Shiv Temple located on the banks of river, Sindh. It is old and Maharshi Narad worshipped here. It is being renovated.

THE FORT OF GOHAD:

It was built by Jat Kings Maha Singh in 16th century .The fort is dilapidated but a Mahal is still housing several Government offices. The fine carvings of Mahal is still worth viewing.The 'Kachhari Mahal' is a unique example of the Iranian Art. One can reach there by bus.

* Dandraua Hanuman Mandir - is an ancient and famous Hanuman mandir. People are called Dr. Hanuman and situated at Mehgaon tesil.

* Vankhandeshwar mandir - is the famous ancient Shivalaya.

* Naarada (Lahar) - is the place where mythological divine saint Maharshi Narada prayed.

* Maharshi Balmiki - Bhind was the ground of Maharshi Balmiki's (The writer of Ramayana) dacoit life.

* Pandari- A village in Bhind Tehsil, where Pandavas took refuge during Agyatvas period of their banishment. Pandari is originated from the word Pandav Vati.

* Lavan - A village in Bhind Tehsil, birth place of Vishnudas, who was the predecessor to Tulsidas for Ram Katha (Story of Rama), he was also named Sahajnath.

* Bhawani Gauri Sarover- Pond built at Bhind town by Pritivi Raj Chauhan.

* Machhand - A village in Mihona Tehsil, famous for the place of penance of Machhendranath, the Guru of Guru Gorakhnath.

* Bijpuri - A village in Bhind Tehsil, famous for Samadhi of Sage Gwalap, after which Gopachal fort came to be known as Gwalior Fort.

* Boreshwar - A temple in Ater Tehsil at Dulhagan village, famous for ancient Shiva temple.

* Sapad-Sammana - Names of the villages on the banks of river Chambal where Mythological sage Shringi Rishi's Ashram was situated. Shringi Rishi performed 'Putreshti Yagya' for king Dasharath.

The famous temple of Hindu Lord Hanuman is situated at Lahar tehsil of Bhind. Here the great Hanuman Bhakt Shri Shri 1008 Ravishankar Maharaj lives in his aashram. This place is known as Rawatpura Sarkar aashram. This place is very beautiful, natural, and peaceful. This place is under in lahar'tahseel and lahar is the too beautiful place which is related to mahabharta and related to pandav story this story is true and its get the othority of Hindu relisions.

National Chambal (Gharial) Wildlife Sanctuary:

National Chambal (Gharial) Wildlife Sanctuary is situated on the Chambal River, and is famous for crocodiles, ghariyals, Ganges Dolphins, and numerous migratory birds. A boat cruise is organised by local forest officials. The sanctuary is 22 km from Bhind town.

Sun Temple:

The famous Sun temple is situated 30 km from Bhind at Balaji near Raun Tehsil.

Ancient Dadraua Temple:

This is a famous temple of Hindu God Hanuman, believed to possess curing powers. This temple attracts many devotees every Tuesday and Saturday.

Malanpur:

This fast growing modern industrial area in Bhind District near Gwalior in Gohad tehsil, 65 km from Bhind town, has many industries, including modern automobile, bicycle, soaps and detergents, electronics, food and dairy products.
