Summary:

Anamudi is located in Marayoor Village, Devikulam taluk, Idukki District, Kerala. Anamudi is the highest peak in the Western Ghats situated at a height of 2,695 metres (8,842 feet) above mean sea level. It is located in the southern part of Eravikulam National Park at the joint of Cardamom Hills, the Anaimalai Hills and the Palni Hills.The Nilagiri tahr in this park is a rare breed of mountain goat. Herds of tahrs grazing the hillside is a common scene here. Inside the park and the estates around in Anamalai, elephants roam freely. Anamudi trekking is easy grassland hikes that starts with an elevation at 2000 mts. Easiest hikes are the North and South slopes with less steeps and deep gorges, while the difficult treks are those of the East and West with even deeper gorge and valleys as well as rock faces. Trekkers/visitors/ adventure freaks can take the easier side to unearth the flora and fauna in the dense forest of Anaimudi. Many animal species that can be spotted here are nilgiri languor, leopards, tigers, macaques and so on. The Peak is also haven to wildlife travelers and nature lovers.This is a perfect place for trekking as enough facilities are arranged here for the tourists and they are permitted to go on foot to Anamudi.The summit of the Anamudi is vegetated with patches of stunted Arundinaria densifolia and Gaultheria fragrantissima (wintergreen), Anaphalis sp., Impatiens and some species of Eniocaulon.

Thoovanam water falls:

Thoovanam water falls at Marayoor impart a rejuvenating experience. Have a bath at the water falls that carry the goodness of herbs on the banks of river Pambar. It is one of the three rivers in Kerala that flows to eastern direction.

Devikulam Hills Station:

Devikulam Hills Station is located at an altitude of about 1000 meters from sea level and at a distance of 13km south west of Munnar, down the Munnar-Kumily Highway, SH 19, at Idukki District, this gorgeous hill station symbolises nature in her pristine glory. The crisp and cool mountain air heavily laden with the fragrance of wild flowers and rare herbs is any nature lover's paradise.

Mattupetty:

Mattupetty is situated at a height of 1700 m above sea level. Mattupetty Lake and Dam is a beautiful picnic spot with the panoramic view of the tea plantations and the lake. Boating facilities are available in the reservoir. Mattupetty is also well known for its highly specialized dairy.

Attukal Waterfalls (9 km from Munnar) : A panorama of waterfalls and rolling hills, Attukal, located between Munnar and Pallivasal, is a feast for the eyes. Eravikulam National Park:

Eravikulam National Park attracts the travellers with its irresistible grace and beauty. It is spread over 97 sq km in the Rajamalai hills. This park was established to protect the Nilgiri Tahr also known as the Nilgiri Ibex.

Chinnar Wildlife Sanctury :

The Chinnar Wildlife Sanctury is situated on both sides of Marayoor-Udumalpetta road.

Mattupetti Indo-Swiss Farm:

Mattupetti is notable for its Indo Swiss live farms, where many superior ranges of cattle are taken care and nurtured. Mattupetti Indo Swiss farm is open from morning to evening for the tourists to visit it.This farm is well looked after, as it is abundantly rich in nature. In fact, it is believed to be the nature’s paradise with Mattupetti Lake being snuggled close on the Idukki hills, which is extraordinarily a nature opulent district of Kerala.

Pallivasal:

Pallivasal is situated around 8 km from Munnar. It has the distinction of being home to the first hydropower project in Kerala.It is a place of immense scenic beauty.

Echo point:

As its name suggests, the place has a natural echo phenomenon. Echo point is on the way to Top Station from Munnar.

Nyayamakad:

Located between Munnar and Rajamala, Nyayamakad is a land of breathtaking waterfalls of Kerala. The waters cascade down a hill from a height of about 1600 meters.

Munnar hills Station:

Munnar hills is situated at a distance of 70 km from Idukki is altitude of 5000 to 8000 Ft above sea level. and is situated at the confluence of three mountain streams - Mudrapuzha, Nallathani & Kundala. This beautiful hill station was once the summer resort of the erstwhile British Government in South India. Sprawling Tea plantations, picture book towns, winding lanes, and holiday facilities make this a popular resort town.Munnar also has the highest peak in South India - Anamudi , which towers over 2695 m. Anamudi is an ideal spot for trekking.

Pothamedu is one of the major plantation hubs of Munnar. Views of coffee, tee, and cardamom plantations are excellent from this place. It is an ideal place for trekking and hiking amidst lush mountains, rolling hills, and breathtaking scenery.

Anamudi Shola National Park:

The Anamudi Shola National Park constitutes the Mannavan shola, Idivara shola and Pullardi shola, covering a total area of around 750 hectares. Anamudi Shola National Park is one of the few national parks in Kerala which have been declared protected areas by the Government of Kerala very recently.It is a part of Anamalai sub-cluster which was recently nominated for World Heritage Site under UNESCO’s World Heritage Programme.

Mathikettan Shola National Park:

Mathikettan Shola National Park is located at Poopara village near Udumbanchola, Idukki District.Mathikettan Shola National Park is a 12.82 km² , This tract, comprising part of the Cardamom Hill Reserve (CHR), had been notified as a Reserve Forest by the Travancore Government in 1897. Part of the land, prior to becoming a national park, had been leased out for the production of Cardamom.

Pampadum Shola National Park:

Pampadum Shola National Park is sitauted in Marayoor Village,Devikulam taluk, Idukki District, Kerala.This is the smallest National Park in the state covers only an area of 1.32 sq km.The Forest Department proposed that 32 square kilometres of mountain slopes contiguous to the Pampadum Shola National Park, Chinnar Wildlife Sanctuary, Anaimudi Shola National Park and the proposed Palani Hills national park be declared as sanctuary.
