Mahavira attained Nirvana in Pawapuri in 527 BC. It is believed by many that the spot where he was buried became so famous among his disciples that each wanted to take a pinch of the holy earth, as a result of which earth became hollow enough to form a large pond, which still exists today. There are five main other temples in Pawapuri &#8211; the Jal Mandir, the Gaon Mandir, the Samosaran, the New Samosaran and another temple built by Bibi Mehetab Kumari. The nearest railway station is also located there which is almost 90 km away.
