Statues of dancers who relieved buses in temples in Orissa exhibit this ancient tradition. During the reign of Ram Chandra Deva, with the decline of the mahaari dancers around 16th century, the boy dancers in Orissa continued the tradition. Gotipua dance is in Odyssey style, but his technique, costumes and presentation are different from the Mahari; Singing is done by dancers. Odissi dance is currently influenced by Gotipu dance.
