Stevens\u2019 work remains unrivalled in terms of architectural genius, detail and magnatude. The entire structure cost amounted to an estimated Rs. 16.36 lakh! It was planned at a pivotal spot between the docks and the harbour behind. It was completed in May 1888. It was regarded as the second most photographed building in Asia in the nineteenth century, after the Taj Mahal.<strong>Crawford Market<\/strong><br>It was set up with the unflagging drive and support of the city\u2019s first Municipal Commissionner Arthur Crawford, who assumed office in 1865. It covers an unbelievable 60,200 sq mts.!<strong>Elephanta Caves<\/strong><br>The Elephanta Caves are located one and a half hour (by boat) out of Mumbai in the harbour. Its central hall rises through the height of the building to the dome. It was built of basalt with deressings of yellow and white stone.<strong>Haji Ali Mosque<\/strong><br>The tomb of a Muslim Saint who died while on pilgrimage to Mecca. Surrounded by nice hills, Nasik has it all: temples, orchards, wineries and industry. Head for Panchavati-Ramkund, where Lord Ram, Laxman and Sita stayed during their exile. It plays host to the great Hindu religious festival, the Kumbh Mela. It is probably the finest beach in the entire stretch from Mandwa down to Murud- Janjira. Peeking through between the spanking new glass and concrete is still the erstwhile capital of the Peshwas, and of the Bombay Presidency.
