Originating from the Ilambalari Hills in Gudalur Taluk of the Nilgiri District in Tamil Nadu, the Chaliyar is an interstate river, covering an area of 2,923 sq. km, of which 2,535 sq. km lies within Kerala. The river flows over a length of 169 kilometers and passes through notable places such as Nilambur, Mambad, Edavanna, and Feroke before finally joining the Arabian Sea near Beypore.
