Gandikota was founded in 1123 by Kapa Raja of nearby Bommanapalle village and a subordinate of Ahavamalla Someswara I, the Western Chalukyan king of Kalyana.Gandikota is a village in Kadapa district of Andhra Pradesh. Gandikota was one of the greatest forts of south India in its heydays and so were the kings who ruled the region. Its cover by River Pennar on the right side, the village is popular for the spectacular gorges formed by the river cutting through Erramala Hills.
