Karamana river is a river flowing through the Thiruvananthapuram city, Kerala, India and its 10 km from the city. The river starts from the southern tip of the Western Ghats at “Agastyar Koodam”. The river flows 68 km westward and merges into the Arabian Sea at Thiruvallom-Karumam area near Kovalam.The land of Karamana is made fertile by the river.The famous karamana jumamasjid is in karamana. You can see this river on the Kanyakumari-Thiruvananthapuram Highway ( National Highway 47), the place is dotted with numerous temples. Major point of attraction here is the Karamana Boat Club, Karamana Mandapam, Mata Amritanandamayi Math (1.5 km), Madan Thampuran Temple, Sastha Temple and Shiva Temple. The Karamana River crosses the highway at Thiruvallam, 12 kilometers from Kovalam on the Kovalam-Trivandrum route.Karamana River is 17 th largest river in Kerala.Boat races are conducted during every onam.The Karamana river has the distinction of having two dams on it despite its relatively short length. In present times it houses a rare collection of archaeological and historical artifacts.Padmanabhaswamy temple :The temple is dedicated to Lord Vishnu who is seen reclining on the Anantha serpent. The temple consists of a tower built of seven stories with rising pillars and intricate carvings decorated with mural paintings. Only peoples from the Hindu religion are allowed inside the temple premises places to the eastern side of the old fort ruins.Neyyar Wildlife Sanctuary:Neyyar Wildlife Sanctuary is established in 1958.It is located 30 kilometers away from Thiruvanathapuram, the capital city. The Neyyar sanctuary is the drainage basin of the Neyyar river and its tributaries-Mullayar and Kallar. The Neyyar river and its tributaries flow along the entire stretch of the preserve. The irrigation dam at Neyyar receives water from the Neyyar river which originates from Agasthyakoodam hill.
