About:
Hill Palace Museum is located at Tripunithura, Trivendrum, kerala.The Hill Palace Museum is Kerala’s first heritage museum. It was set up in the year 1865 and now is an important tourist attraction. The Hill Palace Museum of Kochi is situated on a hillock and is surrounded by 50 acres of manicured lawns with fountains and ponds. The whole complex consists of around 49 buildings that are built in the traditional architectural style of Kerala. This palace used to be the residence of the rulers of Kochi at one point of time.
the largest archaeological museum in Kerala and the erstwhile official residence of the Kochi Royal Family, was built in 1865. Hill Palace is situated at a distance of about 12kms from Kochi on Ernakulam- Chottanikkara route. It is a single storied building in the traditional Kerala style and is called “Ettukettu”. Adjacent to it is a pond and a temple. This includes the Paliath gallery inaugurated in 1991 and was donated by the Paliath family. The other galleries like the numismatic gallery houses coins dating back to the bygone eras. The cabinet hall houses the royal throne the portrait gallery has some impressive paintings on the former as well as some Thanjavoor paintings.The most recent building was constructed in 1950 and the architecture style is more contemporary. The Department of Archaeology took responsibility of the building.The complex has an archaeological Museum, a Heritage Museum, a Deer Park, a Pre-historic Park and a Children’s park.Old weapons collected from Hill Palace Museum – Weapon gallerydifferent places and stone sculpture s ranging from 10th century up to 18th century are displayed respectively. Rare bronze and silver items belonging to 14th – 16th century are displayed in Bronze and metal ware Gallery. Gallery of porcelain contains about 160 items. This includes porcelain or pots, Chinese dishes, cups etc. The exhibits of Epigraphy Gallery are stone inscriptions, copper plates, palm leaf records, grandhas, `thora` in goat`s skin in Hebrew language etc. Chariots Gallery displays horse Carts imported from England and belonged to Maharaja`s of Travancore and Folklore and Folk Arts gallery contains some old musical instruments and clay models. Among the exhibits at the Hill Palace Museum are paintings, murals, manuscripts, inscriptions, carvings and sculptures, mainly from the Travencore Royal House, Paliam Devaswom and the archeological department. Other attractions here are the gold crown ornamented with precious stones, coins, epigraphy samples and majestic beds.

A myth connected with the origin of this place says that this natural fortification of forests and hills was built by Bhoothams (spirit/ghosts) overnight.Thattekad Bird Sanctuary:Thattekad Bird Sanctuary is about 13kms from Kothamangalam and about 71kms from Kochi Airport. Without guide or special permissions it’s a dead end.The sanctuary was notified in 1983 based on a recommendation made by Dr. Salim Ali many years previously. Ali described Thattekad in the 1930’s as the richest bird habitat in peninsular India, comparable only with the eastern Himalayas. Since then much of the forest has been diverted to cultivation and teak and mahogany plantation but what survives gives a glimpse of the phenomenal bird diversity of the once widespread lowland forests of Kerala.Paittingattilkadavu:Paittingattilkadavu a very nice place to have bath and sight seeing.
