Beemapally mosque, a suburb of Thiruvananthapuram (also known as Trivandrum), is right under the flight path of planes landing at the Thiruvananthapuram airport.This colourful Islamic festival is celebrated to commemorate Syedunnisa Beema Beevi, a saintly lady, whose tomb is in Beemapally (Pally means Mosque/Church) near Thiruvananthapuram. Devotees bring money in pots decorated with flowers, incense sticks and sandalwood paste, as an offering during the festival.One of the most important Muslim places of worship, the mosque besides the tomb of Beema Beevi also houses the tomb of her son Syedushuhadamaheen Abubacker. The Dargah Sharif (mausoleum) is situated next to the mosque. This memorial is visited and worshiped by pilgrims belonging to all religions.The mosque is visited by devotees of all religions. The Chandanakudam Mahotsavam or Beemapalli Uroos is one of the most colourful Muslim festivals in Thiruvananthapuram. The mosque at Beemapally is famous for the annual Urs. It is a good shopping area too. It is well connected by State Road Transport bus service from East Fort.

History:
According to Story, Cheraman Perumal went on a pilgrimage to Arabia where he met Prophet Mohammed at Jeddah and embraced Islam and accepted the name Thajuddin. He married the sister of the then King of Jeddah and settled down there. Before his death he handed over the king of Jeddah several letters addressed to some rulers of Kerala seeking their help to propagate the tenets of Islam in Kerala. After his death the king came to Kerala and met the Rajah of Kodungalloor who helped him to convert the Arathali temple into a Juma Masjid. This mosque was designed and constructed by Hindus based on Hindu art and architecture. The graves of three great disciples are situated adjacent to this mosque which is the first in India and second in the world where the Juma prayers were started. People from all walks of life visit this mosque. Ramadan and Bakrid are the only celebrations held here.
