History of Bhubaneshwar City:

Bhubaneswar has an ancient history that goes for more than 2300 years when it was to be the capital of the Kalinga Kingdom (Sispalgarh). 260 BC was taken during the disastrous war of Kalinga near Dhauli between the Maurya Empire (Great Ashoka) and the Kalinga Empire (It is believed that Rani Padmavati). During the 15th to 18th centuries, Bhubaneswar city was in control of Suryavamasi Gajapati, Mughal and Matharas, respectively. The modern city of Bhubaneswar was built in 1946 by the German architect Otto Konigsberger during the British colonial rule. The city became independent from British rule in 1947 and became a part of Orissa.

Nandankanan Zoological Park : This Park is made by Orissa state government in 1960, but it was open for public in 1979. This zoological park is located at 9 Km from Bhubaneswar. Udayagiri hill : Udayagiri hill is famous as the Jain religious place of ancient history, located about 6.5 km from Bhubaneswar. It has 18 famous caves, which were used for the life of ancient Jain communities from Kharavela rule. Some major cave are big and beautiful.

Khandagiri Hill : Khandagiri hill is the famous tourist destination near the Bhubaneswar city. It is located at adjacent on Udayagiri hill. These caves were constructed by King Kharwal during the Second century. This hill place 15 caves which are occupied by Jains. This is an example of Jain culture during the ancient age.

Lingaraja temple : The Linaraja temple was built by King Bhimadeva III during 11th Centuary AD. This temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva. The temple is located at Bhubaneswar. It is the largest temple in the city, which is about 148 feet high and its construction are very similar to Lord Jagannath temple in Puri. Bindu Sarovara is located by north of this temple where thousands of devotee reach to take holy bath.
