| FORT (15TH-16TH C/ ISLAMIC) |
| In 1424, the capital of Bahamini dynasty was transferred 116 km away to Bidar. Four other Muslim kingdoms of Bijapur, Golconda, Perar and Ahmednagar broke away from the Bhahamini kingdom. They called themselves five kingdoms but fought against each other. The Bidar fort, reinforced over a period of 200 years is a very impressive one. The fort is located north of the city. The exceedingly thick walls and bastions fold over many times and should be more than 10km in actual length. It is built with bricks and basalt, and decorated with tiles. Most of the manypalaces and mosques inside are destroyed now. The Rangin Mahal and Sora Kamba Mosque(1427) are in good condition. A Hindu style wooden structure is seen inside the Rangin Mahal and the walls still have a Persian style tiles. Sora Kanba mosque was originally designed as Friday mosque. After another Friday mosque was constructed in the city was used as the prayer room of the Royals. |
